Spiderman and motion sickness

Just 10 days away from my Universal trip. I've read some great things about Spiderman and can't wait to try it out. How is it on people with motion sickness? Is there a lot of spinning, ala teacups? I can't stand Star Tours or Body Wars at Disney. Motion simulators don't agree with me.

I'm with you....can't ride Star Tours at all!

I have successfully ridden Spidey but not without the aid of Bonine or the Transderm Scop patch. I think because this ride is actually moving along a track I don't feel trapped like I do in Star Tours.

Won't ride it more than once a day, but it's well worth the risk of a little motion sickness. Awesome ride.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the advice. Where can I get this patch?

I am very, very prone to motion sickness on many rides. Star Tours and Body Wars will make me sick for an entire day. Normally, I will take half a dramamine in the mornings before attending any amusement/theme park. Spiderman usually has no effect on me. If I feel in the least bit woosy, I simply remove the 3D glasses and that fixes it immediately. There are very few rides that make me woosy at Universal. I avoid Storm Force Acceletron and if I ride Men in Black over 6 times in a row, I start to feel it. All other rides are fine.

I am another person with motion sickness problems. I can NOT go on Body Wars or the teacups, and Dueling Dragons made me dizzy for 12 hours. However I love the Spider-Man ride and it has never made me sick.

Star Tours and Body Wars are atrocious for people prone to motion sickness. I think the problem is that there is zero correlation between what your body is feeling and what your eyes are seeing, with the result that your inner ear goes bananas.

Spider-Man does a superb job of syncing what you see with what you feel. I have a tendency to motion sickness and have never had a problem on Spidey.

I am horribly prone to motion sickness.

Be very careful if you try the Transderm Scop Patch. Many people have bad side effects with it, and I was one of them. My mouth got so dry from it, I felt like you could shave my tongue. And, my pupils got so dilated I couldn't read a blessed thing. And I had mild disorientation, perhaps due to my pupils being so dilated? Even after removing the patch, it took quite some time for the side effects to go away. Not a fun way to be on vacation. Of course, many people have not had these issues. Be sure to try the patch BEFORE you go on vacation. If you don't have the issues, great. If you do, then at least you know before you're on vacation.

Here is what I do on vacation: I take a Bonine the night before I travel to get it into my system. Then every night before bed, whether I think I'll need it or not, I take another. Bonine is a 24-hour motion sickness medication. I don't think Dramamine has a 24-hour pill, and it makes me too drowsy. Bonine does cause some drowsiness, but the beauty of a 24-hour med is that you can take it before bedtime, and it'll still be in your system in the am. :goodvibes Now, since I found this works for me, I have had no issues on any of the rides at Universal. My husband (who normally doesn't get motion sick) sometimes feels a little sick on Spiderman, but he'll close his eyes when he's feeling a bit woosy, and he's OK. He is stubborn and won't try my Bonine solution though.

As with any motion sickness med, you must have it in your system before you need it. Once you're feeling a bit woosy, it's too late for those meds. I am sorry if I'm insulting your intelligence on this, but I learned that the hard way myself. :)

Have fun!

I do the same thing! I use Less drowsy Dramamine It also works for 24 hours I take 2 tabs before going to bed so I sleep off the drowsy part. I wake up feeling great - not drowsy and no motion sickness and most important - no side effects! It is also a great hangover tonic:thumbsup2

And you are absolutely right, you MUST take the motion sickness medication hours before needed. It has to be in your system for it to work. That's why taking it every night before bed is the perfect solution. I was able to come off a cruise ship (7 days) and then go on every ride in USO - including the Hulk and Dueling, no sickness. The only problem was when I got home I got "land sick" I felt like I was still on the cruise ship for about 2 weeks.

wow thanks for this thread i take dramimine but dont think to take it the night before. This is great i will experiment with it before i go to make sure i dont feel drowsy.

May i get opinions on how many you guys take in the evening?

I saw 1 person say 2 pills.

Any other opinions?

Thanks,

Dee

My wife got motion sickness on Spiderman & especially Jimmy Neutron. They are both pretty intense but you should still try them out , you can always close your eyes if things get too bad ;)

I didn't care for Jimmy Neutron either...it was too jerky. I've never had any problems on Spiderman.

I don't know what possessed me to ride this with DH and DS. I don't ride rides for a good reason. You couldn't get me back on this for any amount of money. I thought surely I was going to throw up before the ride was over. Especially the part where you zoom up then drop. DH, who doesn't care much about rides, liked it though and rode it again with DS9.

I take 2 tabs because I am taking it at bedtime and it is the less drowsy formula. I never noticed it making me drowsy, but then again I always fall asleep fast. I also want to make sure I don't get motion sick so I take the max doseage without any side affects.

This is what I did--I purchased it and tried it at home first before even going on vacation just to make sure it did not affect me in any way. I knew it would prevent me from getting motion sick, I just wanted to make sure I wan't woozy from it...and i wasn't:banana:

I know Bonine is the same thing BUT I have only seen them in chewable tabs...I found them just too nasty to take.

DH has felt very ill on Spiderman, even taking Dramamine. He can do Hulk and DD, but no motion simulator rides as long as he has the drug. Recently he tried the patch. It has helped alot. He plans to try Spidey again with the patch, but is concerned. Last time, he was ill for 2 hours afterward. He might be an extreme case, but just be careful.

i usually have to close my eyes on the part about the buildings going up very fast.it gets me every time.i am going to try taking the meds. at night because i usually take them just before heading out to the parks.

it is an awesome ride though

I get motion sick on a lot of rides ... I don't do things like spinning teacups because I *will* sometimes actually throw up. Really I'm a bit o a rides pansy and I don't do most roller coasters because i do not like that dropping feeling in my stomache.
After hearing my husband rave about the spiderman ride - and him saying it wasn't too bad and that he thought I would be fine - I went on it and he was right. it was awesome and the motion sickness wasn't that bad. I wasn't at all close to throwing up. I think I fet worse after the cat in the hat ride. Plus the spiderman ride was just insanely cool - I think it was absolutely worth some mild discomfort - and i definetly plan to go on it again!

googie4goofy I thought I was the only one who suffered "land sickness"
Can'nt handle teacups, star tours etc but fine on cruises after I'm on land it's
not pretty:sick:

I don't know what it is, but it happened to me on several occasions, all after being on a boat. I don;t know if this is true, but I heard that once you get seasick, you will always get seasick. I did not get seasick until I was in my 30's. I went on a fishing trip off the coast of Block Island and the water was very rough....I mean huge swells, on a 30 ft fishing boat, it was rockin and a rollin non stop. We were so far out that we could not go back so I had to tough it out for a few hours. After getting back on land I started getting "land sick" I felt like I was still on that damn boat rockin and rollin:scared1: Ever since then I have gotten motion sick.

The only ride that affected me while on Dramamine was Mission Space - the real one, not the tame one. I felt nauseaus after that, but there was a Coke stand right outside the ride, thank God, fixed me right up! That was the last time I drank real Coke.

This is why I do Bonine: it's brainless. One chewable tablet = 24 hours of protection.

I am very sensitive to motion sickness, and most of the time I can only mitigate it. Bonine seems to work better for me than Dramamine.

Let us know what you decide, and how it worked for you.
