Last night I got to go to an advance screening for Spider-Man 2. I'm not going to give away details of the movie, but I will say this --

Don't miss this movie.

I thought the first Spidey movie was fantastic, and in some ways Spider-Man 2 is even better. It doesn't have the "Wow" factor the first one had, but it does delve into the personal sacrifices Peter Parker has had to make and his acceptance of them.

Only change I would've made would be to have a few more New Yorkers talking about what a menace Spider-Man is -- seems like J. Jonah Jameson was the only one saying that. Yeah, Peter's friend Harry hates Spidey, but he blames Spidey for the death of his father, the Green Goblin.

Otherwise, it's a great movie and captures the feel of the comics. If you enjoyed the first, you won't be disappointed in this one.

We got free movie passes that are good for "special engagements"... and we are using them for Spidey 2.

Any idea why it is rated PG13? Is the violence similiar in the first one?

I have kids that are younger than 13 (putting on my flame suit), but they were fine with the first Spidey.

We do let them see Spiderman, and a few other PG13, but not many. (If it has sexual, or drug references nobody sees it!). Our PG 13's are on a case by case. I was wondering if we need to preview it first, or it will be alright?

Obi Wan I believe we may have been in the same theatre last night. Did you get your tix from the Times-Dispatch?

BTW, the movie was great! After seeing a piece of crap like Fahrenheit 9/11, seeing Spidey 2 was a big relief.

I'm very exicted to see this move (not Shrek 2 excited, but still excited).

I do have one issue with the trailers being shown on TV...they all show him being Spidey w/o his mask on.

Just like in Shrek 2...the trailers started to show Donkey in his 'other' transformation. (the steed)

know what I mean?

I can't imagine the violence being any worse than the cartoons kid watch nowadays....

Michael is 11 and you can BET we'll be there!

BTW, www.rottentomatoes.com gives it a 94% fresh rating, one of the highest I've ever seen! This is one HECK of a week for movies!!

I thought it was the same as cartoons or even scifi Star Wars type violence. we are strange parents. we don't mind weapons, as long as it isn't "real" guns, Phaser guns, or "fantasy" weapons, or superhero violence is fine. (since superheroes are works of fiction)

I have issue with characters in movies walking around with Bazookas, and guns. I wouldn't let my son see XXX (the Vin Disel) movie, because it had real guns, and real death. --(of course not really actual death, but you know what I mean)

Joe, we probably were at the same one. It was at the Short Pump theatre, we were at the same one. I got my ticket from Dave's Comics, but it did have the Times Dispatch listed as a sponsor.

Cindy, if your kids were fine with the first movie, they should be fine with this one. No sex, nudity, or drug use. The violence was along the same level as the first Spider-Man movie or the X-Men movies.

Thanks! The both saw the first one, and I think my son saw the X men movie as well.

I just wanted to make sure it was all just "stylized voilence", and not any nudity or drugs.

Short Pump has such a nice theatre, we will be there to see SpiderMan on Friday.

Went to the 12:00 showing of Spiderman 2 last night.

It's good. A must see in the theatres, the action is made for the big screen.

Left itself open for a Spiderman 3.

Of course I was previewing it for my 10 (almost 11) year old. Most of the violence was the typical good vs evil. There was one scene that (for my 10 year old) might be over the top. That was the Surgery Room scene. Every child is different though, and what might be intense for my child, won't be for yours. I did see several kids at the midnight premire showing.

We saw the movie this afternoon and everyone loved it. DD, 11 & DS, 9 did not appear to be frightened during any of the scenes. The special effects made you want to just start flying from building to building...

Gosh I loved this movie so much! NEver before have I wanted to go and watch a movie again right then and there! My husband the Spiderman freak, loved it too. He told me all the way home how it covered over a 100 different comics and how there were parts that were right off the covers. The whole suit in the garbage can being one of them!! Can not wait to go see it again, and it won't be soon enough for the DVD/VHS release!!!!

They are signed, well at least Toby and Kirsten , to a third movie already and were so after the success of the first!
