Where is my spider killing husband when I need him?

:scared1:
:sad2:

Keeping an eye on it hoping it will be in same place when DH gets home around midnight.

Are you serious? I can't believe you'd rather watch a spider for a period of time than take a paper towel or something and kill it.

OP I'm right there with you - MY DH says I have a specific spider scream. I am no sissy by any means but I have a totally irrational fear of spiders.

Hairspray works too

and vacums both work well for killing spiders, even though I often wonder if they will crawl back out of the vacuum. I hate spiders, they weird me out!!

First aaaggghhhh! I totally have an un-natural fear of spiders so I can sympathize with you. Spiders usually don't move from their web unless disturbed. If you don't mess with it the thing will be there when your DH gets home.... no need to stare at the thing.

I with the others, vacuums work wonders. I used to do the step on it or paper towel method. But about 4 years ago I had an experience with a mama spider and about 500 babies I will not repeat. I don't think I have heart problems because that day it should have stopped beating. So, to avoid that I vacuum.

If you don't have bug spray - hair spray will work too.

I too hate spiders!!! They creep me out!

But occasionally we have these "cricket spiders" and they are always in the bathroom (at 3:00 AM when I'm half a sleep). :rotfl: I wish I knew where they come from, anyway, DH told me to try hair spray and darn if it didn't work! stop that sucker in it's track! Then I whacked the heck out of it!! All the while my cat was watching me and I'm sure he was thinking "what is wrong with mommy?" :)

So...you found your first wolf spider! They are the only spider that I know of that carry the babies on their back, and boy, are they big spiders! :scared1:

I'm learning to kill the little ones...but the big ones DH has to kill! I'm trying to get better, but spiders has always been my big thing. I'll take a rat or snake any day!

I always try to catch them and take them back outside, unless it's one of these:

:eek:Ugh you had to post pictures!

OP did you ever get that spider? I'm pretty good with spiders now but I used to have an irrational fear. I still worry about the ones that have the babies on their backs, happened once to me and Ohh boy that was one time too many.:scared1:

Do you have a can of the compressed air for dusting electronics? That will freeze the spider instantly.

Same here! Found 3 big spiders all in the same week. One spider was outside on the trampoline. It was an orb-weaving spider. Harmless and good at catching bugs, so we let it go (we had trapped it in a bug jar until we determined what it was).

The 2nd spider was a wolf spider. That one was found in the house. I let it go out in the front yard.

The last spider was a black widow. It was sitting in a web in our garage. That one got squished!

The day after that I squished a 5" centipede that was crawling at mock speed across the kitchen floor. It was late at night and I was the only one still up. By the time I ran to get a shoe, the centipede was already half-way across the kitchen. It was soooo gross to squish. I left it there for DH to clean up in the morning because the tentacles were still moving and its guts were just too disgusting for me to wipe up.

When I divorced, I realized my X was useful for something-killing spiders!!!

I have a routine now when I see a spider:

1) Scream like a little girl.
2) Grab the old phone book I keep for just this reason
3) Grab the foaming carpet cleaner ( again, just for this reason)
4) Spray spider with carpet cleaner ( this works if he is high or low)
5) Drop phone book onto spider.
6) Scream like a little girl, again.

However, if you do this on a wood floor, don't let it stay there too long or the cleaner will dry and stick to the floor, along with the phone book. Then you have to scrape spider guts and phone book off your floor.

That's FOUR HOURS away!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

And whoever posted that picture of the HUGE spider should be reported to the Mods for posting innapropriate content on a spider scardycat thread. :scared1: (I'd click on the Report button but I'm afraid to scroll back to that post. :scared: ;) )

It was yesterday - think the spider got her?

I can't believe I opened this thread again knowing those pictures are there.

I couldn't read anymore of the thread once I saw a picture posted because I'm terrified of these things. My poor husband doesn't like to kill them. He will take them across the street and set them out in the grass over there. UGH! I say squish the suckers!!!

If he isn't home to get them away from me get one of his shoes that are heavy and throw it on there or squish it. My shoes, usually Crocs, don't work because it might get in one of the holes.

Another good thing if you don't want to get close to it is hair spray!!! It will freeze those suckers in place!!! Get some of the good ole Aqua Net to keep on hand just for them. They won't move a hair.

I've never heard of hair spray, I'm guessing it has to be aerosol? I HATE HATE HATE spiders, I had an incident with one as a 4 year old that I never want to experience again....and yes, the pp who posted those pictures is a meanie! LOL

Actually, spiders on the whole, are great for keeping some bugs at bay. So I don't have too much of a problem with them. Just catch and release.

The spiders of which I posted pics previously, would have a lifespan in mere seconds, should I encounter.

Redback spiders (the first pic) make you very sick and in some cases kill and the second spider is the Sydney Funnel Web - Get bit by one of them and you probably have less than a hour to get help. Oh, he also likes to hide in dark places like shoes.....

We watched a show on the funnel web spider, those things are deadly!!! Luckily there is now an anti venom but they showed the people milking those spiders and man, there is NO way I could have THAT job! LOL We actually get black widows around here a lot, we do kill them when we see them, this year there was even one IN the house....scary!!!!!
