SPG points at the Swan

We will be staying at the Swan for the first time over the Easter 2004 break. We booked at the teacher rate and wondered if anyone out there really knows whether the SPG points upgrade will really be available at that time? ( Or will the SPG Platinum members have snatched them all?)

Also, any recommendations about room location/views? And what about swimming for the kids?

There are something like 800 rooms, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. I can't imagine that there will be any conventions during Easter Week that might take up the upgrades, although I'm sure it will be busy.

I would try to get a room close to the pool. If you can get a view of the fireworks that would be ideal. There is a baby pool, plus the Grotto pool with slide. My 3 year old really liked the playground area that is adjacent to the beach.

I guess it depends on what kind of upgrade you're looking for. We used points to upgrade to CL the end of June. The club floor was full so we asked for club privileges even though our rooms were elsewhere. That was fine - but we had to ask. From reading this board I knew it was possible. Loved the convenience of CL with kids.

Call SPG 5 days before check-in to use points for the CL upgrade. If you have any difficulty, ask who can help you. I was referred to a very gracious gentleman in reservations at the Swan who worked things out for me. The Swan prefers SPG handle this since they have access to your points/account, but the Swan staff seemed extremely helpful and eager to make sure things went well for us. I have no complaints about the Swan. I thought we had a great room, great service, and a great price. And the heavenly beds - well, I'm totally spoiled.
