Besides spending money on drinks or in the gift shop, where else is there to spend money on board? (I'm trying to decide how much spending money we will need while on board the ship.)
Actually physical money on the ship isnt used. You use your KTTW card and it goes onto your account. It's a cash free system so you would only need to have cash if you want to pay Guest Services at the end of your trip otherwise they will just put it on your credit card and you can pay it off when you get home. For us we prefer to pay the balance on our account every day so we go home with a zero balance at the end.
Here are the things I can think of
Shutters for pictures
Quartermasters if you take kids (the arcade)
Drinks like soda unless you are in the dining room where it's free
Spa Treatments
Palo
Souveniers
Candy type things for the shows
Alcoholic drinks
on CC you will need to pay cash for stamps to mail back postcards but the rest of the shops I believe use your KTTW card.
When we went before with our 3 kids with the shore excursions put on our KTTW card and all the extra's it came to about $1000.00 total.

You can just "attach" a credit card to your Key to the world card...by this I mean giving them your credit card number, etc. You can also pay at the end with cash or travelers checks. If you just give them your credit card you don't have to wait in line at the desk to pay at the end of the cruise, though.
We bring X amount of money in travelers checks and put them in the safe. We go to Guest Services every night before we go to bed and find out the balance and pay the balance off for that day. Toward the end of the week we know about how much money we have left and gear our spending towards that and we usually always come home with a 0 on our Credit Card. I think once we came home with a $150.00 charge due to an unexpected visit to the infirmary. I do however think this trip we will leave everything on our AMEX card (want the sky miles) and keep tabs on the spending so that when we get home we can pay it off when the bill comes due.
We spent a little over $1,000 on the ship (quite a bit of that was for clothing we had to replace because our baggage was delayed), but only about $125 in cash. You can spend as much or as little as you want.
