What are everyone's thoughts on how to take spending money? Last trip we used a FairFX card which we found to be reliable and decent value. We're on site with dining so it's really just payment for souvenirs, non-alcoholic drinks not included in ddp ;-) and tips.

I know it's irresponsible (as it can get lost or stolen) but I like cash, and then we use credit card for bigger purchases.

Ditto with the cash here. I did the travel cards a few years back and they were just to much of a faff so since then we just take cash and use CC.

I use cash also and will be when we go again in October. I used a travel card when we went in 2015 and a couple of places it would not work for some reason. It didn't do it a lot but a good 3 or 4 times throughout our stay which is a bit annoying when you've got a queue behind you

we take a lot of cash just because i'm a worst case scenario sort of person and i figure cash will always be good in a pinch..
but we really only use the cash for tips and taxis.....souvenirs all go on the credit card...but i have an american credit card, so there's no translation loss or fees...

Hotel room has a safe (which I assume is insured) so divide the money into days and only take out that day's

Also have a credit card for emergency purchases

Any suggestions for transaction fee free credit cards in Florida?

Post Office and Halifax used to be recommended a lot, have a look at money savings expert for the most up to date recommendations.

I use cash mainly as it's easier to keep track of how much we're spending each day, and last year we also used our suntrust debit card I just transferred some cash before we went so no fees.

Get yourself a Halifax Clarity card.

No loading on the exchange rate, no foreign transaction fees, no cash withdrawal fees (although you do pay interest on it from the day you take it out. I pay an equivalent amount in a few days later to minimise the interest).

You should really check your travel insurance to be sure how much cash you are covered for.

We just take a credit card and pt everything on it and pay it off when we get back. We find it cheaper than cash. I manage how much we are spending by having a very clear plan for each day and estimating food bills. That way I know if I am off plan I am spending more. I then put each days receipts into a spreadsheet each night.

We have a credit card each so my husband always also takes his but we keep it in case of any emergencies (medical especially)

We don't carry any cash nor use it
