Spending Money

Morning guys,

My girlfriend and I are going to Disneyland in September and we're wondering how much spending money would be sufficient?

We arrive on the 4th by Eurostar and leave on the 6th. We have the latter part of the 4th, all day on the 5th, and until approx 16:00 on the 6th in the park, so three days effectively.

We want to go to Buffalo Bill's too.

We've decided that we'll nip to the big shopping centre and get some sandwiches etc. from there for lunch and just eat out in the evenings, so here's what we need to budget for each:

1 x Buffalo Bill's ticket.
3 x Evening meals.
3 x 'picnic' lunches.
Souvenirs.

We've made an initial goal of £150 each, which equates to £50 per day. Do you think that sounds about right?

It's difficult cos we don't want to go with too little, but at the same time £50 a day seems alot and we don't want to come home with £30-40 of unspent money.

Thanks for your suggestions. (We're both 20 by the way, so souvenirs would be more 'grown up' in style, if you like!)

Hi Malton Seadog

As you've probably already heard DLRP can be very expensive and it depends on where and how you want to eat.

An adult ticket for Buffalo Bill's will cost Adult: 59 €, about £40.00, but it includes a TexMex meal and free beer or soft drinks, so that's one evening accounted for but uses up most of your spending money for that day and if you allow for 1 or 2 drinks in the waiting area prior or after the show all that day's budget.

Eating in the village is as a rule cheaper than eating within the resort, but it's dependent on whether you want table or counter service.
Have a look here http://http://www.dlpfoodguide.com/ for an idea of prices and menus.

If you really fill up at breakfast and there's lots of food available, a snack for lunch is sufficient to carry you through to the evening, we always take some snacks with us as well, cereal bars, chocolate bars, crisps etc.
You can get filled baguettes, from the train station they're reasonably priced.

Hope this helps, enjoy the planning.:)

Thanks for the info.

Just looked on that website, anything up to £11 for a burger and chips.

That is UNBELIEVABLE!

I heard DLP food was expensive, but that takes the biscuit.

We're going by train so may take some food with us for lunch and maybe even evening meals too!

I'd rather spend money on presents than food to be honest!

I would say its definitely worth taking some snacks with you.

By the time you've paid the train fare to get to the shopping centre I dont think you'll have really saved much for the hassle it will cause. You will be better buying a sandwich from the station at DLP or filling up at brekkie and then snacking through the day before a meal in the evening.

Buffet meals sometimes offer good value.

Also you have budgetted for 3 evening meals but if you are going to Buffalo Bills you wont need a meal that evening as well.

You can save by buying drinks to take into the park as well and not buying them pre show at B Bills.

BTW - You can have a great time at DLRP without spending loads of cash, our trip in Oct. 2004 was done on a budget, no character or table service meals and we had a fabulous time. :goodvibes

Casey's Corner in the park is very good value Giant hot dog, French fries chocolate cake, soft drink/mineral water for around 11 euros :thumbsup2

I would agree with this as well. We have also done it on a budget. Its just being strict with yourselves and window shopping rather than buying loads of souvenirs as well as they can add up.

There are loads of souvenirs you can get for free- maps/serviettes etc to make scrap books and take loads of photos.

We went in 2004 on a very strict budget as it was a last minute booking. However, we had a great time and came home with tons of stuff. We took refillable bottles into the park and filled them at the water fountains around the place. this saved us a fortune as drinks in the park are about three times the cost of at home. We also took in a pre packed sandwich and snacks for lunch. After filling up on breakfast in the hotel, we would have this and not be hungry until quite late. We then went for buffet meals or out into the village for a mc donalds. Look around the different stores too. I found that almost every store had a least one item significantly reduced in price so don't buy everything in the one store!

We managed a week for 2 adults and 2 kids and did not break 1000 Euro. We did not feel hard done by and the kids came back with tons of stuff. It certainly can be done!

I personally think it can be expensive or as cheap as you want as they cater for all budgets.

If you want to save money then eat in McDonalds as that is cheap. Although some table service restaurants are reasonbly priced. All the menus are outside so you can see the cost before you go in.

When we went at Easter we ate in Annettes Diner the meal came to about £45 for 3 of us including drinks & 2 courses each. But it was value for money as we got plenty to eat.

People have already said if your going to Buffalo Bills that is 1 nights meal covered.

Take some snack items such as crisps, sweets etc to eat during the day. Then you will only need an evening meal.

I took about £150 with me at Easter for the 3 day trip and I came back with money even after tolls & petrol as I drove. It can be done.
