Has anyone ever used crown exchange for their travellers cheques / money
I found it on the compare travel money site.
Today they are offering 1.84 exchange and if you pre book you can get an even better exchange, but are they reliable.
We are going back for the 2nd time in November as we have had a terrible 6months and we decided to see out the year on a high with lots of laughter and fun. Hope you can help, thanks

There are quite a lot of companies out there that offer this!

If you pay up front and order your money for nov,dec....etc you can end up with a really good rate - best i saw was about 1.9. The only downside s that you usually have to pay the cash upfront and its usually a minimum of £1000! Also from what i can make out on some of them - they give you USD as opposed to TC's - personally i prefer TC's but if the rates good?!

I have never used them personally but know a lot of people here have.

My personal concern is this: if you are paying upfront, find out what protection (if any) you are offered if they go into administrarion / liquidation. An unlikely scenario possibly, but for me the risk is greater than the benefit of a few extra cents to the pound.

We used them before our trip this year (got back yesterday), and they were excellent. You have to pay by debit card, cheque or bank transfer, but the money arrives on the exact day they say it will - if not before! They will sell you both $ TCs and $ cash.

The only thing I will say is to say what denominations you want. We ordered the TCs and got a lot of $20 cheques. This meant that if we spent say $80, that was 4 cheques to sign.

I ordered my $$ from them in May. They are due to be delivered on 2nd October. The rate of 1.9 was too good to miss.

But I'll be honest, I am worried that something might happen. I asked the guy from CCE (John - very helpful) what would happen if the company go bust after I pay my £500 and before Oct? What protection do I have? He was very honest and said there was no protection, they are not ABTA or ATOL protected. But he said people were ordering for Aug 07.

I just thought I'd go for it, so I am patiently waiting another two months until my $$ arrive!

thanks for all the replies, I must admit I hadn't thought about what happens if the company goes under! and what sort of protection you would have claiming your money back, one to think about !!!
As it happens I was in Truro today and the First Choice travel shop was offering an exchange of 1.84 so maybe I will take the easy option and play safe.
