hi everyone,

My partner and I are going to Disney world for our honeymoon and are going for 14 nights. We have the Disney dining plan so have no need to spend on food. We are staying on Disney property and plan on going to universal two times.

How much spending money would you recommend taking?

Thank you,
Ash & Yaz

Depends on what you want to buy lol. If you are planning on going to Premium Outlets then take a credit card that doesn't charge a foreign transaction fee, such as Halifax Clarity.

If you have the dining plan then you will still need to tip, allow at least $200 (although I don't recall exactly what I spent) the easiest thing to do is to charge to your room account and then let that charge to the no-fee credit card.

At Universal allow $20 per day for quick service lunch and snacks. The refill mugs can also be a good deal if you drink a lot of soda (there are some still options such as Ice Tea on the Freestyle machines too) and you can get the mug reactivated for the second day.

I only took a couple of hundred dollars cash, mainly for meals at Universal, SeaWorld, Busch & while shopping but also used cash for some shopping. Everything else went on the credit card and everything at Disney was room charged and sorted later.

It depends on where you dine how much your tips will be. If you do a sig dining it can be very expensive so the tips can run high. On one of our sig meals ( 4 adults meals but 2 of them under 18) we spent $460 ( but the food part was included on dining plan) This was a meal for 4 which included 2 cocktails 2 glasses of wine and 2 mocktails . The tip was then $100 and the drinks were over and above that. We sort of got talked into some extra special main meal they were allowing us to have on the dining plan (as a one off lol). We thought amazing forgetting that we then had to base their tip on that. So watch what you spend and also remember drinks are expensive in disney.

Nobody can answer this question for you, take what your budget will allow. Or, if your irresponsible like me, take your card and use that if you run out of money, and also charge a ridiculous amount of souvenirs to your room!

For your dining tips. Assuming you have made ADRs you can read the menus and make a very close estimate as to how much you need to tip. You also know yourselves so can then judge what you might spend on alcohol with your meals (plus tip) and estimate that too. You may want to budget for a housekeeper tip daily but that's entirely a personal choice. My point is you can more or less work out what you really need. After that I think it's what you can afford and just manage your spends accordingly when you are there. I always separate my tip money before we travel then what I have left is to spend. I would also mention water. Work out if you can cope with fountain water (free but not very nice), or if you need to buy it because Disney water is stupidly over priced. I buy cases of water from off site because I need it but will not pay Disney prices for it. Saves a small fortune. All that said. If you have the dining plan $50 per day each is what I tend to budget which allows for shopping mall blow outs.
