Spending Money for 1st Trip

Hi all,

Have been reading this forum for a while, but this is my first post.

I'm booked to go to for the 1st time with my girlfriend in October, for 3 weeks. We are planning on taking £2000 spending money, and probably my CC for big items/emergiencies. Can anyone tell me if this is a realistic amount to take. We've already purchased all our park tickets (21day WDW Pass, 14 Day Universal Pass, and 1 Day at Discovery Cove), so wont need to buy any tickets.

We are hoping to do all the parks, and have a fantastic hoilday as it may be a couple of years before we get over again. ( Getting married next year in Dominican Republic, with honeymoon in Mexico, and then probably starting a family )

Over the next few months I will no doubt be asking for advice on planning the 3 weeks.

We normally allow £100 per day for food and "extras" & we've got 2 kids, so you should be fine with £2000.

Good idea to take the cc though in case you spot any big bargains in the shops!

Sounds about right to me Lee, though no doubt the temptation to get the old CC out will be too much!

We normally take about £1,000 for two of us for 2 weeks excluding park tickets. We usually bring some travellers cheques back, but use the credit card as well. £2,000 for 3 weeks should be more than enough, the first time we went we did spend quite a bit on photos from rides etc and so the first visit was probably the most expensive.

I'd agree with what the others have said and would say £2,000 will be fine.

We're budgetting on roughly £150 per day for a family of four.

You should be ok, but do make sure you bring the CC, it's essential in case of a medical emergency. DH needed antibiotics for a dental abcess once and it cost us neatrly $200 upfront, which we claimed back without a problem, but if we'd not had a CC, we would have been financially compromised. It was the only time we hadn't taken any "in case" and as you can imagine, we always take some now!

That sounds like loads to me, but I echo what everyone says about having a CC for emergencies.

No, we also put everything we can on our credit card.

but not everything can go on a CC (tips/snacks/taxis during our New York part of the trip), so we also carry a lot of cash. Plus I take our checkbook from our american bank account, just in case (though I don't think I've ever used it when traveling).

And we've also had a medical emergency while at WDW. There's a visiting doctor service that's very convenient (we were staying in the yacht club that year I think - we called the front desk and they called the service for us).
The doctor and his assistant who made the "house call" took a credit card (which is good, since as i recall it was $150 for the 5 minute visit). They were very nice and very good.

Hi,

For our Family of four, we spent on average $100 per day on food. This covered breakfast buffet, evening meal/buffet and ice creams, etc during the day.

The rest is down to you as regards what souvenirs, etc you buy

Thanks, Trevor - that's made me feel a bit better about our budget. For some reason now that the trip is almost on us, I've been panicking that we hadn't budgetted enough.

Its always the ways isn't it.
