I was just wondering what the minimum or average amount of money (cash) we should bring with us (2 adults, 1 child)- If I am correct, the main tips can be charged and bingo and purchases go on the KTTW card. Am I missing anything here? So we wouldn't need cash except for Palos tips and room service on the ship- and then it would just be money for things on the islands? or do most people charge things there as well. Hope that question makes sense- I just don't want to carry a lot of cash if I don't need to. (and should it be traveler's checks)

Thanks-
Donna

We charge everything on the ship except small tips for room service and the like (I would charge the Palo tip), and charge everything we can at the ports. If you plan on shopping in Nassau atthe Straw Market or in Mexico at some of the markets, you'll need cash, but that will depend onwhat you want to buy.

You can cash traveler's checks on board, too, so there's no need for much cash, IMO. But then again, I charge everything in my life!

You can effectively get away with using your KTTW card for everything on the ship and a credit card for purchases on the islands.

Personally, I like to have a little pocket cash for island shopping because it is kind of silly to buy a stamp or something small on the islands and use a credit card.

Thanks- I didn't want to carry much if I didn't need to- but wanted to make sure I was forgetting something.

You need essentially no cash at all on the ship. Palo tips can be charged. Room service tips can be charged IF you ordered anything (like alcohol or soft drinks) that you are paying for. Food, milk, etc. is free.

So...you need a few $ for room service tips, washing machine, postage stamps at Castaway.

Everything on the islands can be charged EXCEPT park entrance to Chankanaub (Cozumel). You can charge inside the park, but not the entrance fee....and taxi fees on the island. All the stores, etc. take plastic. You may want a little cash to bargain with street vendors or whatever.

If you are not comfortable carrying cash, remember that Guest Services will cash Trav. Cheques or personal checks for you.

I didnt bring cash with me on the St Maarten excursion....silly idea. I wanted to get my hair braided and buy one of those beach bags. Thankfully my sister loaned me the money til I got back on the ship....those beach sellers were only taking cash.

Also be sure to take small bills (ones and fives) to the places where the vendors are - markets etc. They "NEVER" admit to having change and you can bargain much better with small bills. You can't offer $13 instead of $15 if you don't have exact change!:wave2: :goodvibes

I brought $1000 in cash and $1,000 in travelers checks.
Biggest expenses I paid cash for were:

1) Food at airports doing to and from Orlando, about $200 for the 4 of us.

2) Tips for waiter/assistant waiter/headwaiter/cabin stewart, about $300. (these could be charged of course, but I always prefer to tip in cash)

3) Parking at home at the airport, budgeted $90, but got a surprise on that, they were having a half off sale on parking at the airport, (it was new years week) so that ended up only being $45.

Never touched the travelers checks, charged all shore excusions, wine and onboard purchases, so spent another $1050 there, and bought home $400 in cash.
