Yup, Topamax would be the one![]()
I am on it because they discovered I had a minor stroke believed to be caused from migraines. So the migraines need to be prevented to prevent any future strokes.So...I'm on 50mg a day right now, but they want me to up to an eventual 100 mg. They promise the side effects will lessen within a few months I hope they are right, otherwise, my students are going to think I'm crazy!
Is anyone concerned with the decline in our spelling skills? I mean I know this is an informal forum and all, but I have noticed lots of spelling errors that are clearly not typos. To me there is a difference between a typo and a spelling issue. I have noticed words like "coming" and "schedule" spelled "comming" and "schedual". And some are part of peoples' signatures! Are we becoming so dependent on spell check that we are forgetting basic spelling skills?Just wondering.....
It's not something I notice too much on a message board; if someone's post title is off or they've misspelled a word several times, I might mention it.
It's funny you said that because what prompted me to start this thread was I was reading several responses from this one poster who repeatedly misspelled the same word. (This poster was being rude also by the way). And I simply mentioned something about their spelling skills and I got a warning from the moderator. Have you ever received a warning for mentioning spelling? I wonder if that person got a warning for being rude since I got one for mentioning spelling.....![]()
That's rightIf you're going to be critiquing poster's spelling, I think you should double check your grammar and punctuation before you hit submit.![]()
The OP simply asked if anyone was concerned with the decline in spelling skills and people are acting as if they were personally attacked. It was just a question.I'm not sitting in a classroom right now - and would really prefer not to be treated as though I am.. I'm chatting - not taking a spelling test...
Your busy for a newbie, just registered and got yer first warning.![]()
Every now and then that happens. No capitalization,
That's right![]()

Well considering 98% of your posts have been on political threads on the CB, where the temprture is way past the boiling point, and then there is this happy thead.

To the OP, I apologize if I came across harshly..![]()

I don't get concerned by typos but where people use the wrong word, even if it is a synonym, then I find it irritating and will sometimes point it out. How can you learn if nobody corrects your mistakes?
In the example above, "your" should be "you're" in order to make any sense.
The other day someone used "phase" when the meant "faze".
People spell "due" as "do" which probably imitates their accent.
I often see "queue" spelt as "que" or "cue".
If people don't appreciate a friendly reminder then fine, so be it.

No, I haven't gotten points for it. But I do try to not be snarky about it. My DH is dyslexic, and his spelling is atrocious! Lucky for him he married an English major.I have sympathy for the posters who obviously have a problem like that.
stashbin? You HAVE to be a teacher! I think you are dead on with your comments. You are truly a breath of fresh air. I have been keeping my eye on you and your comments and I believe you have a sense of what this world needs. You seem to be a very opinionated person and I think that is a good quality to have. It sounds like you only want what's fair! Even if it is to spell correctly!!!!!![]()
Let's just all get along!!!!!

It's also one of my pet peeves. While I admit that I make mistakes at times, it is frustrating to see so many blatant errors. (But that's probably just my O.C.D. kicking in!)![]()
