Spelling Errors!!! *&%^*(&%^&*(%

Wow you all must really hate me.

Guess there is no room for dyslexics or people with learning disabilities that affect their spelling/grammer.

Honestly, that wasn't what I meant at all. (And I was seriously j/k at correcting the person-jokes don't come through as easily on a message board) I only mean when it gets to the extent that I can't read it. Typos are nothing-but when it is every other word in a LONG review-that gets impossible to read and I'm interested in what the person had to say.

I tend to give up too when it is really bad (especially with lack of any punctuation or no caps.) What I wouldn't do to have my computer do spell check on message boards like email. I just love it when you run spell check and don't pay too careful attention and it changes your wrongly spelled word (but understandable) to one you DIDN'T mean.

Example: Email today, I meant to say, calendar it replaces it with colander. Can you please look on your colander and see what date that meeting is? Opps! When it was miss spelled at least you could figure it out.

I don't say anything, but I've closed threads when the errors are excessive.

One poster has misspelled her screen name and that has bothered me that the person didn't look up the word before making it a permanent name.

Maybe that was on purpose to make it unique. Many correctly spelled names are "taken".

BTW I am so concerned I look like a idiot I am cutting and pasting to word to spell check. It is very time consuming.

I put dictionary.com on my toolbar so I can quickly check a word.

I also find it hard to read a run-on post that is not broken into paragraphs. I don't care if the paragraphs are in the correct place, afterall this is not English class, but it's too hard to focus when everything runs together.

I don't call typos "typos" because one e-mail my sister wrote the word, but made a typo when writing "typo" and typed "tyro". We got a good laugh out of that and of course now refer to them as tyros.

No, in this case, I doubt it. She has taken the name of a character in a movie. It's just my personal peeve, honestly.

I find it difficult to read emails from my neices and nephews in high school and just out of it. The random capitalizing and unique spelling of words hurts my head.

well you can't even spell Pocahontas right! (that was a joke, really.) I had to go get the DVD case to be sure I did.

Oh, I notice them all the time, but I know I make mistakes as well, so I try not to let it bother me.

I'm an editor for a publishing company, and I'm paid to look for that stuff all day. I come here for relaxation, but the typos and incorrect usage seem to jump out at me.

Another one I used to see a lot on a weight loss board was "loose" instead of "lose", as in "I need to loose 20 pounds." Maybe wishful thinking that the clothes will be loose when they reach goal?

Wow, now I fear to post. Sometimes my brain is thinking what I want to say, and my fingers are typing something else.

I have an Aunt that corrects my grammer when we are talking on the phone about DD, now that drives me batty. I kinda figured the boards were like a conversation. I hate the thought that I need to edit my work here, I am a manager by day and have to edit everything I write all day... can I please just relax here, please?

Oh man, I thought I instahled it (clearly I did not or I would of spelled that right.) I can't get it to view, oh well I guess I have to wait for DH! We have a yahoo tool bar, but don't use it.

halestrm, I am the same way. It happens when I am talking sometimes too. It also happens when I use ASL (American Sign Language) and talk at the same time. I can sign right, but what I say comes out wrong (or vice versa.)

My DD has a lot of problems with her spelling. I am often reminding her to read and edit her work on term papers and other school assignments. She also posts on the DIS and has been corrected by a poster editing her work Thankfully, some of the DIS regulars came to her defense during that particular post and pointed out her age to the person flaming her. DD is a Straight A student, in the top percentile on achievement and standardized tests, and is AP in Math and Science. She's one of the first to step in at school to help out if one of her peers is being mistreated. Could I worry about her spelling? Maybe, I could. However, I feel there are a lot more important lessons to teach to my children in this life, like respect for people's feelings and valuing differences.

Personally, I was raised by a Walking Webster's Dictionary (my dad). Also, the nature of my work involves a lot of writing, editing and wordsmithing. I agree with the poster who says she comes here to relax when she posts, not be scrutinized. That is my opinion.

I know I am guilty of typos . I am NOT perfect!
The one that bothers me is when people refer to a Hamster as a Hampster! I really think they believe it is a Hampster!
And I hate the phrase "Peed my pants". It makes NO sense. Maybe you peed IN your pants, but the other would just plain hurt!

I always have to think through "lose" and "loose" before writing it to make sure I'm writing the correct one.

Oh, one of the jobs (at work) of my DH's is to edit papers that people in his company write. That comes in handy when our kids are writing something and want it checked before turning it in. He designed and wrote an ad for our religious Congregation that was going to be in a local paper. When I saw the ad I noticed that something wasn't worded correctly and I mentioned it to my DH, not realizing that he'd designed the ad. He took it well!

And hopefully I'm not making many mistakes tonight--I'm typing in low light while watching tv.

I replied to a thread like this once, and when I said how irritating it was to read posts that were full of grammatical and spelling errors, I got royally flamed. So I'm MUCH more tolerant about it now, although I still notice them.

Have to say, though, that I usually have to go lie down when I see someone say "It's a mute point" instead of "It's a moot point." That's always been my pettest pet peeve, and I can't give it up now!!!!
