Do spelling errors in threads drive you crazy? Right now there is a restaurant review thread that is driving me absolutely nuts. I can't even READ it there are so many errors. I want to PM this girl and offer to edit the darn thing for her so that I can find out what she (could be a he I suppose) really thought about his/her food.

Yes and no. I can't spell well but the Google spell check tool bar option helps. What bugs me is people using the wrong spelling of a word, like to when it should be too or there when it should be their.

Spelling errors in posts don't bother me too much (most of the time - sometimes I get in a mood). I figure they are making typos more often than actually spelling something wrong.

What really gets my goat, though, are spelling errors in published or widely distributed materials. How about a proof-reader?

Geez, and here I thought I was the only one with this type of neuroses. I notice spelling errors all the time, but since it's just a discussion board, I can't bring myself to get on anyone's case about it.

Since I'm a lousy speller myself, I don't mind a few errors. But when there are a lot of them, or as a previous poster mentioned, people using the wrong spelling (there for their, etc.) Sometimes I too am tempted to PM them and say something but I know it's kind of silly.

Yes, bugs me too. I try to edit my posts before I send them. Or even after! It's a matter to me of personal pride.

:)

It drives me nuts also since they just JUMP out at me. I'm a tech writer so I proof stuff all of the time. I do make mistakes myself when typing so I really can't say anything.

I make typing mistakes, too, so I would never pm or correct someone's spelling.
BUT, while we're on the subject, I do have some pet peeves. :teeth: They are people who make their posts one long, run-on sentence that ends up having no meaning. I might say something then, because if they are asking for advice or something, the readers have to know what they are saying. Posts that use ellipses inappropriately, instead of other punctuation marks, like oh say, PERIODS. Ending every sentence with an exclamation point! And, finally, making words that should be just plural, into possessives. (For example: Fed the cat's last night and then went out to eat. The kid's got burger's and fries and I had a salad. We all got shake's.)

Aghhh!...!!...!!

It drives me nuts. Typos happen. But wow, when there are misspelled words all over, it makes it exceedingly difficult to wade through.

Drives me batty, too. Spelling, grammar and pronunciation errors.........

I once called a radio station because the girl DJ kept saying a word wrong, over and over and over during their morning discussion and she was using it in the wrong context.

She asked if I was an English teacher...........NOPE.

I also go crazy over our local newspaper.............errors out the wazoo!

Many years ago, when DD16 was in middle school, her teacher sent home a permission slip with tons of spelling AND grammar errors. I circled all the errors with red pencil, signed it and sent it back!

Yeah, let me add that ONE or a couple in someone's post don't bother me. It's when it seems as though every other word is wrong is when it gets to me. I know typos happen (I have typos) but when it is constant it bugs me.

Alliecats-I agree with those, too.

The only ones that really bug me are things like "should of" instead of "should've."

Spelling errors don't really bother me because I know I make them. However, grammatical errors bother me.

Like when people type ALOT as opposed as the correct way of A LOT.

Sometimes mispronounciations bug me. I used to work with a girl that would say PACIFIC instead of SPECIFIC. Dorve me nuts because we were in a professional environment.

I will never say anything though, because I think it rude to.

It used to bother me until I was blessed with a beautiful son that has dyslexia and dysgraphia. I am now more tolerant of others.

Should've. :)

Yes, spelling and grammer. We all make mistakes, but put them right for god's sake. The thing that really gets me, is people who don't know their "theres", if you know what I mean.

I am not a good speller. So I don't mind. I know she isn't talking about me since I haven't put a review on restaurant board.

Really isn't school, people type and think fast. Yest I try to read my posts 1st, but typos happen and as long as you can understand it, I don't mind.

Now I have to admit if someone doesn't use ANY gramer or types in all caps I tend to ignore it. Too hard to read.

Happy to read most people don't mind too much. Hate to think I was driving anyone crazy! (besides my DH.)

I use ellipses all the time. But otherwise, my posts are usually OK...I think. ;)

One of my biggest pet peeves is the grammatical error of using "of" instead of "have"...(;)) as in "I would of gone too."

The one I see here used incorrectly a great deal is "your" in place of "you're". That's not a spelling error--it's a grammatical error but drives me off the mountain!!!!
