Speed Dating

Has anyone ever tried this? My best friend has encouraged me to sign up to do both 3 minute and 8 minute dating this month. At first I thought she was crazy, but my divorce was final last week so I decided that this seemed like as fun a way as any to get back into the dating game.

Its amazing how much different dating is in your 30's compared to your college years! Just finding single men is not easy these days!

Can you tell us a little more about speed dating?

After a divorce in 1989, and things the way they are with Jim.....I am thinking the word "date" is worse than some 4 letter words.

I've heard about and read about it and I think it's an excellent yet somewhat strange idea!

Speed dating -- a group of men and women, equal amount of each sex, get together at a designated place. They're then paired up to start the night. Then, after 3 or 8 minutes, the men stay seated and the women all switch, or the women stay seated and the men switch, sort of like musical chairs, they all move down one seat. ROTFLOL! It's a weird concept, but you get to meet a lot of people of the opposite sex in one night. After the "date" is over, if you are interested in getting to know someone better, you let the head of the date (person who got the group together) know. If the other person is interested in getting to know you better, the person heading the "date" will give out phone numbers or ways to contact that other person. It has to be a mutual thing, or no information is exchanged.

If anything, it seems like a fun night out, just to get do something totally different! I wish you all the luck! Have lots of fun!

The concept behind speed dating is that you get to meet a lot of singles in one evening. You have to sign up before the event, which typically takes place in a restaurant. With 8 minute dating, you have 8 eight-minute "dates" that night. If two people both indicate that they are interested in the other, the company exchanges your email addresses. You don't find out until later who chose you so there is no on the spot rejection. Its sounds a little like being on a reality show that isn't televised!
