I had speech therapy for 3 years. I was pulled out of pre-K and kindy for my speech therapy - but it never bothered me. There was only one other child pulled out of class for it, but it was no big deal.
I started my first with private ST since the public school system took so long. My insurance covers 30 sessions a year with a $30 co-pay each time. That $30 adds up - and 30 sessions isn't that much. But it helped us get a head start while waiting for the public school ST. My son has/had a delay in articulation only - ahead in all other areas. His delay was severe in articulation though. He started at 3.5 years old and will hopefully be done in a couple months. He's 6.5 years old. My 3.5 year old daughter starts ST for articulation only this week.
His speech therapist told me that once they're out of ST that it's hard to get them back in. That when his delay was mild that it would be best to keep him in ST for those later sounds since he might not qualify later to get back in if we took him out. His speech is still not perfect, but his delay is very mild now. I think we'd be okay if he lived in MA since the r's are "ah's" still.
