Speculation thread....New incentives after Mar. 28

Honestly I'm not holding out for any super-duper incentives.

Despite what we may think of the economy, DVC appears to be purring right along. I've been following the sales recordings on the Orange County website and there are no signs of a slowdown. And yes, people are even buying SSR points from DVC.

Since the stock market dropped in September, DVC has raised the base price of AKV from $104 to 112. AKV incentives have been reduced from $8 off to $6.25 off. Developer's Points have had some pretty stringent restrictions (SSR / RCI only; used by October '09).

The cruise incentive is a nice one but I think that speaks to DCL's ills as much as anything. It's not like they are giving away prime spring/summer sailing dates.

I've also heard that DVC is making a change in its downpayment approach after Saturday. For the last few months they have allowed buyers to apply the incentive pricing to the mandatory 10% down. Come Sunday buyers will have to put the full 10% down, and incentives come off after that.

So despite what we think of the economy, DVC continues to make it more expensive to buy and folks are still doing it. I'm not saying DVC won't have great incentives by next week, but I think it's far from a slam dunk. This isn't fire sale time.

Why do people buy direct instead of resale? Partially ignorance...partially due to a need to finance...partially due to a trust in Disney's handling of the transaction...partially because they are afraid of the resale process...partially because they want the immediate gratification...partially because they want to dictate their own terms (number of points, Use Year), etc.

We just bought 100 VGC points to lock-in the cruise incentive. But we'll still be within our rights to rescind if a better deal materializes next week. Best of both worlds. ;)

Curious as to what your thoughts are on this. Since you cannot purchase with the current incentives after Mar. 28, do you think they'll announce the "new" incentives on the 26th when the DLR event begins? Do they normally announce the new set of incentives right before the old one expires? This happened at the last DTDreams event and I'm wondering if that's the norm?

I don't recall DVC ever holding one of these meetings when the timeframe would bridge different incentives. So your guess is as good as mine as to how they'll handle it. Maybe they'll offer people both the free cruise AND whatever is coming next week. : :rotfl: :goodvibes

We usually don't know about new incentives until the old have expired. Guides typically aren't even told in advance to keep them from spilling the beans.

In these cases, the recission (?) period can really work in people's favor. If you're considering buying / adding and have any interest in the cruise, make the phone call now. Then if the incentives end up being better come Sunday, call the Guide back and ask to switch to the new offer. Legally DVC is obligated to allow you to rescind...and then you're just agreeing to buy again under the new terms.

The only thing that is certain is that the cruise will be off the table come Sunday. That is, assuming DVC doesn't extend that offer further. ;) If they don't extend the cruise offer or make it part of the new incentive, there's no way to get it after the 28th.

I'm not sure the cruise will be extended at this time...there were many posts who were not happy about some of the terms associated with the cruises, such as not being able to get an assigned room, not being able to book right away, some able to upgrade, some not, etc. I do think the cruises will be in future incentives, I think they will need to change the terms of the promotion.

I'm not sure the cruise will be extended at this time...

I'm not either. One poster here did leave that door open a crack, but I don't know if he/she was relaying info from a source or just voicing an opinion. Everyone I've spoken with has insisted that the cruise deal ends Saturday.

But DVC has unexpectedly extended deals in the past so I didn't want to rule it out altogether. Could happen but there's every reason to call by Saturday if folks want the cruise.

I received a fancy mailing today about THV, and it included a flyer about the 3-day cruise for 100-point SSR add-on. I can't believe they would purposely send something like that out with only 2 days left on that incentive (though it could have been just much more delayed than they'd planned). Now, it didn't say anything about Developer Points, and I feel certain that DP's will be gone after Saturday, since they had to be used by October 09 anyway.

So I think (and this is just my guess) that the cruise will stay, the DP's will go. As for the $5 off or anything else, I don't have any idea.

I got that one early last week. Then I got the post card mailing about the cruise a couple of days later. The mailings always seem to go out when the promos are ending rather than when they start. I guess they figure it gets them a lot of impulse purchases rather than well thought out ones.

Well, I did get something a while back when the last promotion was ending, but it said clearly "Hurry, this deal ends ___," (I think the whole thing was themed around a window closing) which this one did not.

Well now we know the incentives offered at the VGC event at DL. Any guesses that the new ones offered after March 28 will be similar? It looks like the VGC event incentives are 1) $$ off the price per point, 2) gift card, 3) stay at Grand Calif. with fast passes, and 4) RCI 1 week stay. I wonder if the new DVC incentives offered to everyone will just be $$ off plus RCI 1 week stay??

As far as I'm concerned they can keep the RCI 1 week stay. I have no interest in that one. I did finally speak with my guide last night and was told that because she is out in CA for the event she will be allowed to complete the purchase with the old incentives for her members when she gets back to FL. And since they finally got the approval to sell in NY I am good to go, just need to decide on how many points. I'm waiting to hear back from her on the $$.

I agree. The 1 week RCI incentive is really awful. I hope that the members let Disney know that they do not appreciate this incentive at all. I have heard that the availability is much more limited than a regular RCI trade with DVC points. I am disappointed with these incentives for the VGC and hoping that the new ones for the general public won't be so bad (but not holding my breath).

I'm interested to see whatcomes out. Last week my guide said that the DPs and the $5 off are going away but the cruise isn't. I know sometimes things change and the guides may not know ahead of time, so I guess I'll just wait and see.

I find it hard to imagine that they'd take away the discount off the point price. I have heard that they may not allow you to use the discount towards the downpayment any longer, but I have to think they'd still offer a discount. $112 per point from Disney just doesn't compare when you can get the same thing (at least for AKV and SSR) for much, much lower. Unless the other incentives are just incredible.
I think they'll still have a discount, but may not let you apply it towards the downpayment.

My understanding is that the discount will no longer be allowed to be applied to reduce the 10% minimum down payment. From what I've been told, if the discount is offered you will have to pay the first 10% and you can then add the discount to lower the total of the remaining balance.
