Speculate on future BLT incentives

....I just wanted to add the offer at the DVC Travel Show in NY:

Additional incentives
For 100 point add-ons - in addition to above price credits you get a 3 night stay in the treehouse villas, with first choice of reservations before reservations open to SSR members or other DVC members.

popcorn:: this is not going to go over well with SSR owners . . .

Just remember this event is in Rochester NY not NYC. There are 5 shows for members. So there won't be too many sold.

Do we know if there are any restrictions on the reservation? There usually are!

There are more shows planned in many cities, right? What if they offer these same terms at each of these cities?

Can you tell me where the other shows will be, please?
Also, were Developer points included, or were rgese special incentives offered instead of the extra points?

I went to the show yesterday, right now there are not any other shows planned but I believe that this is the start of a few.

The special incentives took the place of develper points. So, no develper points for an add-on.

Yes. When I stated 5 shows, I meant 5 show times in Rochester. There were also some show times directed toward non-members.

I don't see it as being a huge deal.

I'll be surprised if this offer is completely devoid of terms and conditions. In all likelihood, there will be a small block of rooms set aside for each night, and reservations will be first-come, first-served. In other words, DVC may designate 5 villas per night (or some other figure) available for booking under this offer...not all 60. That would be similar to how they handle the rooms turned over to CRO.

The reality is that DVC will still have some ownership in the treehouses when they open, so they can do as they wish with that inventory. Same will happen with Kidani next spring and perhaps BLT.

And even if they do open it up to all, I doubt it will be of a terrible inconvenience to members. If they allow buyers to book up to 11 months out, it represents an inventory of nearly 20,000 available nights (11 mos x 30 days x 60 villas = 19800.) Even if they sell 500 add-ons under these terms, that's only 1500 nights in a treehouse or 8% of all available rooms.

Other events may follow, but there won't be many before SSR owners can begin booking in February. They would be hard-pressed to schedule another event like this in December (busy holiday season, Member Mixers already scheduled for WDW) which leaves only January as a realistic possibility.

And above all, this is a one-time offer. Once they start taking reservations in February, this "book before owners" thing is off the table. SSR owners survived for 5 years without any treehouses--I think they'll make it another year with limited availability. :wizard:

Excellent points tj, your posts are always informative :thumbsup2

Just imagining that a SSR owner who doesn't get THV reservation they may want could be upset thinking it's a result of this incentive  I'm not criticizing SSR owners who may feel that way (hopefully there will be none or as you say very few); right now all our points are at OKW & if this incentive pertained to GVs & I tried to book one but couldn't the thought would cross my mind.

I bought 250 BLT points when they first went on sale and recently called Disney to complain about the recent developer point incentive and they gave me matching developer points without much of a fight.

If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you ask?

I was thinking about calling myself, but am not very good at that kind of thing.

Thanks!!!

never hurts to ask. You are an inspiration!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I'm glad. I keep thinking how I would be a little upset if I\we had juped right in. We're still holding out to see if incentives get any better. I want to buy by March or April though.

Yea I'd like to know how you pulled this off too. I called my guide yesterday and asked and I was very kind and professional but I told him that I had been reading posts like yours and he said that he had tried for others and hadn't had any luck. I told him to try anyway and that I wasn't very happy that others were getting this offering and that he didn't think he could get it for me. Again; professional but firm. I bought on day two (only because my guide didn't return my call the first day).

If there's a hoop I can jump through, I want to know what it is. Points is points. LOL

Please enlighten me.

Thanks!

This is the one reason why I didn't buy points as soon as BLT went on sale. What's the saying "Those who don't remember history are comdemned to repeat it."

Saw these same threads about AKV. I don't really need the points now, I can afford to wait and be patient. I don't think BLT is going to sell out anytime soon. Plus I'm waiting to see if we get one of those DVC roadshows with the killer incentives showing up within 100 miles of me. :woohoo:

At this point, I would not buy unless the offer is "mind blowingly awesome:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: ."

I'm gonna have to see the whites of their eyes or it's TTS for me:surfweb: .

I cannot imagine DVC offering priority booking for Beach Club or Wilderness Lodge before the owners could book - there would be a stampede!

I don't know that it will get me anywhere, but I wrote to voice my objections re: the (at best) inconsistent treatment of existing members.

BTW, let's look at some of the numbers:

For 100 point add-ons: ... a 3 night stay in the treehouse villas, 81 - 235 pts, depending upon days & season (with first choice of reservations before reservations open to SSR members or other DVC members) vs 100 Developer Points

For 160 point add -ons:3 night stay @ Regency hotel in NYC plus 2 Disney Broadway show tickets (value?) OR
5 night stay in 2 bedroom @ SSR plus $250 prepaid Visa card - 135 - 325 pts, depending upon days & season, plus VISA vs 160 Developer Points

For 200 point add ons - 5 night stay @AKV in 2 bedroom plus 3 days of fastpasses plus $300 visa card - 189 - 420 pts, depending upon view, days & season, plus VISA & FPs vs 200 Developer Points

For 270 point add ons - 6 night stay @ BLT in 2 bedroom villa plus 3 days of fastpasses plus $400 visa card - 215 - 412 pts, depending upon view, days & season, plus VISA & FPs OR
3 night cruise for 4 people in a cat. p room (value?) plus 4 nights in 2 bedroom at SSR plus 3 days of fastpasses - 108 - 280 pts, depending upon days & season, plus CRUISE & FPs vs 270 Developer Points

For 360 point add ons - Adventure by Disney trip for 2 people (value?) plus $500 visa card vs 360 Developer Points.

And let's not forget the Developer Points are limited to SSR whereas some of these are for AKV or BLT.

The problem is more than the SSR priority, IMO. We're not talking a minimal "kicker" - in fact, both the special show/character meet & greet and the museum memberships count for that. We are talking about significant differences in incentives here.

BLT is my 5th contract, and I too was disappointed in the "poor" incentive.... but it is a monorail resort.... maybe no other one in the near future... has a value.... It will have the lowest annual fees of any DVC resort... save money there... the best view... the best transportation....

we signed up the 2nd week.... and thanks to all of you talking about your "developer points", I called my advisor and he said that they are honoring the dev. points to anyone who calls and requests them who were not offered them initially.... so thanks guys! Just got 160 points due to this website! I am so thankful! We love SSR but had planned to go to Disneyland, so we have free points for that trip!

I too would rather put my money into this than to invest it into a S&P index and watch it sink another 30%.... that's right... we broke 2002 support today and we are going down to approx. 600.... hope not.... but the car man. debaucle is the culprit along with Citi..... time to tighten but at least my kids have a wonderful vacation and so does mommy... I need my "happy place"... that's why I went to college and got a masters degree... and with DVC, it the cheapest vacation we could have for 4 kids... a party of 6 dictates 2 hotel rooms wherever we go and eating out is expensive... at Disney, we eat in the room quite a bit... will love the view from my BLT balcony next year!:cool1:

I can also report success getting Developer Points added to an existing contract... :) Thanks. :thumbsup2
