SpectroMagic v. Main Street Electrical Parade

Ok, so when we went on our last trip last August, I was MORTIFIED to see the abomination that is the MSEP had replaced my beloved SpectroMagic. Now if you know my Disney tastes, you would think I would love the MSEP. My absolute favorite Disney movie is the classic Alice in Wonderland (kinda have a little crush on Alice) and my second favorite is Peter Pan. They are both major floats in the MSEP... And yet, I was crushed at the loss of SpectroMagic. I guess maybe because it was what I had always known as a kid and even when I started coming back to Disney as an adult. But even having my favorites headline the parade isn't enough to make me like the MSEP.

Just curious how everyone feels. Which do you like the best? What is your favorite float or character? Also, has anyone heard anything about them bringing back SpectroMagic? I have read on a few sites (including our very own DisBoards) that SpectroMagic is supposed to be back at some point this summer. Anyone have any "inside" information?

I would have to agree that the electrical parade is just not the same thing. I enjoyed spectromagic so much that I couldn't wait for my son to see it and get pictures, mom was camera challenged .

He thought I was crazy in January when he saw the electrical parade instead. I do hope spectromagic comes back soon.

I'm hoping Spectro Magic comes back before my fall trip. I've seen the MSEP four times, and that's more then enough for me.

I was thrilled about the MSEP coming back...absolutely thrilled. It is what I remember being the most special thing at WDW when I was a kid...well at least I remember my Mother and Father going nuts over how wonderful it was and making it an absolute priority on our trips. I really enjoyed Spectromagic, but the nostalgia in me missed MSEP and I got really excited that I would get to see it again. And then I saw it...... and now I want Spectromagic back. I agree that Spectromagic is so much better!

Those are the Spectro-Men... and apparently your creeped outness wasn't that uncommon! Disney got rid of the masks and made them face characters when they brought the parade back in 2001.

I could also swear that I saw those guys in a parade at Disneyland, but my trips to the parks all those years ago have started to run together. I can't remember anymore what was in WDW and what was in DLR.

Another vote for Spectromagic, I really miss it. I have seen MSEP and it just can't compare to Spectro.

~I've only seen MSEP and music aside, it's just fabulous! I've always wanted to see SpectroMagic but not if its creepy like this. I think MSEP will end up as my favorite.

The Spectro-Men and their masks were in the parade in 2005 and 2009 when I saw it.

I love Spectromagic!!! MSEP, eh. Even my 11yr old niece wondered why the music was the same thing repeated again and again and again.

For Spectromagic I will grab a piece of the Main Street curb at least 30 minutes before, more if needed to get a good viewing spot. MSEP? We use that time to go on rides.

I might be mistaken about 2009. Maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it as much as in 2005 (no more masks).
