Spectromagic Question

I noticed on the Disney Calendar that Spectromagic was not going to be taking place on the days we will be at the MK.

I have my days planned out like this with a 6 Day MYW ticket.

Sun - MGM
Mon - Epcot
Tues - AK
Wed -MK
Thurs - Epcot
Fri - MK

I do not have the Park Hopper option and it looks like the only thing we will miss is Spectromagic. In your opinion, is Spectromagic alone worth the $140 it will cost to upgrade our tickets to Park Hopper?

I noticed it is going to be on Monday and Thursday night. I cannot change our days because our reservations are based on the EMH and our dinner reservations already.

Of course Spectra happens at the same time the Illuminations happens at Epcot on the 2 days we will be there.

Advice?

Thanks,

Mark

I would not pay an extra 140 just to see it, though. Maybe you can justify the expense another way. Depending on the ages and wants of the people you are going with, and the crowd levels, I would definetly still consider adding park hopping to your passes. For example, if you go to one park and it is not crowded, and you get done most of what you want to do/see in a few hours, you could always hop over to another park for the rest of the day. If you want to end up in a certain park for a PS and/or Extra Evening Hours, you could always start the morning in one park, take a break, then hop over to the other park. It is possible that you (or someone else in your party) will love Fantasmic in MGM so much that they would love to see it a second time, but you also have a few things you wanted to see/do in Epcot. With the hopper, you can both be happy. Personally, I love the freedom hopping from one park to another gives us. I would hate to make the decision in the morning to go to one park, then not be able to switch later in the day. Maybe this is because we have already been to WDW a handful of times and know which rides we love, and which we can skip. Can you discuss this with the other people you are going with, to see what would make the trip most enjoyable for them? If this is a $ issue, and it's not affordable, I wouldn't even bring it up to them.

I would not say it's that much of a cost issue, its a matter of justifying the cost.

The 2 boys do not know were going (Hopefully they do not know about this site :) )

It's between my wife and myself. The way I look at it, if we do not add the park hopper, that is $140 towards stuff they can buy and bring home.

This is our first time going, so it is a tough decision to make.

I am a frim believer in hopping! We use it ALOT. We rarely, if ever, spend all day in one park...I think that would drive me nuts.

We almost always start out at MK, DD7's favorite and then hop to another park for the afternoon or evening.

I wouldn't buy the hopper JUST for Spectromagic, but I would buy it. Then hop over and watch Spectromagic and enjoy the freedom that hopping allows! :)

Just my 2 cents!

You didn't say how old your kids are. If they're young, hopping can sometimes be a little more work than you care for. It doesn't bother us, but I've heard some people complain about lugging strollers onto busses, etc. My guess is that you've given some thought already as to whether or not you'll hop, so I wouldn't change that decision based on Spectromagic.

Also, if you're ever planning to go back to WDW, then you have Spectromagic to look forward to. We are firm believers in not doing everything on every trip. It makes going back that much more exciting.

I personally don't think many things are worth $140.00. HOWEVER, the parade is awesome! the music is addicting and it's just a great atmosphere for the park.

Like someone else said, maybe if you justify it by planning other things as well.

Also, Park Hopping is unbeatable. Trust me! When you go to one park and are really feeling as if you are ready to go somewhere else, but you can't, you'll wish you had the Hopper. It's just so much freedom.

Let's say you are at Epcot and you feel like you've done it all that day........well with the hopper, you can simply get on the monorail and BAM! You're at the Magic Kingdom playing!

I forgot to add..... looks like you've picked a lot of the parks based on EMH. Have you read-up much on how crowded the parks can be on EMH days? For that reason alone, I think the $140 is worth the upgrade to hoppers. Those parks will be packed at times (incl non-EMH times) and you may want to find solice in another park.

Hmmm I was thinking along the lines of getting my money's worth out of staying on-site by being able to take advangate of the EMH days.

One site I saw said September is one of the slowest times at Disney, so I am hoping it is not that busy for our first trip.

For the other person asking the ages, our boys are 4 and 9, so moving around on busses and such should not be a problem.

I will talk it over with the wife to see if she wants to give up $140 of the money we were taking for buying stuff and turn that into park hopper passes.

A cheaper way around it would be to buy a separate 1 day ticket for $60.

Maybe I'm missing something. How is buying 1-day passes for 4 people cheaper than spending the money to upgrade to park hoppers? His $140 upgrade cost is for all 4 people.

markscns... as for getting your money's worth due to EMH, there are various ways to look at that. Just because you're in a park longer doesn't always mean you get to do more. It's no secret that the EMH parks are more crowded than the non-EMH ones, no matter what the season. If you want to utilize the EMH, get the hopper option, then you can go to a non-EMH park until it closes and then hop to the evening EMH. Or if you prefer morning EMH, go to that park in the AM and when it starts getting crowded around 11am, head to a non-EMH park.
