SpectroMagic parade rumor

I have the Light Magic parade on dvd. It's good. I don't know why it received bad reviews when it was running at Disneyland. The music was good and that's so crucial for any successful Disney parade. If the music flops so does the parade. It's not better than Spectromagic. Spectromagic will always be my favorite nighttime parade.

Oh man! I remember Light Magic. I still think that it would have made an excellent stage show - but instead it was a head-scratching parade.

I still can't believe how much they invested in it only to have it flop.

The problem was the floats were absolutely HUGE so if you were right next to them you had to look up to see anything. And they filled the entire street. Then there was the projection screens on the floats - so you really HAD to be right in front to see the little movie. And that played while the floats were stopped - which I think they did in three or four locations along the parade route - which they traveled dark, all lights on the floats off and characters pretending they were asleep.

Yowza - definitely would have made a better stage show.

you got a while before spectro leaves. grant it that the thing is falling apart.

I would love to see MSEP come back - when it returned to WDW 1999/2000 I watched it every night of my vacation. I remember watching that parade on my dad's shoulders when I was little, and it just has this feel-good rhythm about it. I like SpectroMagic - I love the Chernabog (when it works and doesn't get stuck) but I guess my favorite part is how the lights go out and the anticipation of the parade.

I would enjoy seeing something new (aka not recycled) and spectacular though, too.

I love both Spectro and the MSEP. I wouldn't be opposed to a new nighttime show at MK as long as it had the "true" Disney wow-factor.

Sort of off topic, but this made me remember watching Spectro in 2006. When the float with the Ostriches (some sort of bird anyway) came by, a bow attached to a costume flew off and hit me smack in the face. I was kinda stunned, and so the bow dropped into the lap of this little kid who was sitting in front of me. The little girl looked up at me held out the bow and said "I think they wanted you to have this". Funny memories. :)

Trust me - NOBODY wants to see the original Light Magic parade.

Nobody.

I'm watching a YouTube video of it right now. It looks great! Maybe if we're lucky we'll get it at WDW, and maybe if we're even luckier they'll replace the Great Movie Ride with Superstar Limo! Yay! :hyper:

We watched Spectromagic during our first visit to WDW so it holds alot of memories. Then they brought back the Main Street Electrical Parade which we did not enjoy at all!! The music was so repetitive and annoying to us. We were thrilled when Spectromagic returned but maybe it is time for something new. But, please don't bring back the MSEP!!!:scared1: (Even though I know it also holds alot of memories for many of you) :)

This is all I could find about SpectroMagic..........

In our ongoing quest for continuous improvement, the Magic Kingdom Liberty Square Bridge will be closed from Friday, August 15 through Friday, August 29, 2008, for routine maintenance. The refurbished bridge is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, August 30. During this “Maintaining the Magic” refurbishment, we are reducing the grade on the bridge, making it easier to navigate for the parade vehicles, carts and other hand-pushed assets that will travel across the bridge, once it’s reopened.
While the Liberty Square Bridge is closed for refurbishment, additional entertainment enhancements will be offered to minimize any impact this closure might have on our shows and our Guest experience, including the following:
In addition to our normal 3pm Disney Dreams Come True Parade, a second Disney’s Dream Come True Parade is planned for 7pm.
Both Disney Dreams Come True Parades will follow a modified route, traveling from Town Square down Main Street, U.S.A., and circling around the Hub and back down Main Street, U.S.A, to step-off at the Fire House area gate.
Because the SpectroMagic parade floats are too large for the modified parade route, SpectroMagic will not be performed from August 15-29. However, additional experiences will be offered in the evening, including additional Castle Shows, extended evening Character meet-and-greets in Town Square and additional performances of the Woody’s Cowboy Camp show.
Wishes fireworks will be performed as scheduled

I was also one of the very few to get to see Light Magic, TWICE! I really enjoyed this show. The music was right up there with Illuminations25 as my favorite. The "floats" were designed to be street stages. The show was not meant to be a parade, but rather a moving theater. This concept seems to work for daytime parades, but it had problems at Disneyland.

I have never seen a Disney theme park show or parade end faster than Light Magic did. And that really surprised me. I am sure that if they had made a few changes and gave it a chance, it would still be there today.

It is also my opinion that the show was pulled because it was rumored that they had teenagers dressed as the pixies in the show and the child labor people started yelling and screaming. This makes sense to me because there is no other way Disney would simply pull the plug on a show so soon after it started.

It was pulled due to overwhelming negative guest reaction.

I gotta say that's putting it mildly..

I was there the night of the AP preview and man.. what an unmitigated disaster.

Video projections were off.. the dancing was off and the music was just "odd"...

The description of Lord of the Rings meets Lord of the Dance is the best I can come up with..

And as for the rumor about teenagers and child labor laws.. teenagers CAN work.. anyone under the age of 18 can work with parental consent in California. They cannot perform dangerous tasks, handle hazardous materials etc. And there are limitations on how many hours and interfering with school etc.

Dancing in a Light Magic parade in a pixie costume.. while horribly ill-advised, would be regrettably legal with parental consent.

All info that I've heard/seen is that Spectro stays at the Mk thru 2011.

Only time will tell if that's correct.
