Would you take a 4 year old to Spectromagic at 9 pm if they normally go to bed at 8 pm? Normally, I think staying up late once in while is fine but I can't afford to have crabby kids the next day. Doesn't it take a while to get out of the park after? Would it be better just to skip?..although I would love to see it..

Just a thought.....if you do it early on your trip your child's biological clock will think it is 8pm not 9 since you are in the central time zone and WDW is in the eastern.

Excellent point. Maybe I will stay on CT the whole trip!

Don't skip Spectromagic if you can help it - it is magnificent and well worth a later night. Just position yourself near Main Street so you can make a quicker exit, and plan to leave a few minutes before the very end of the parade.

Teresa made a good point about the time zone, but yes it does take a bit to get out of the park. You might not be back at your resort (onsite or off......depending on where you're staying) until 10:30 or after. It is a terrific parade though.

I wouldn't miss it!! Can you sleep in later the next morning? Just my opinion here, but on vacation we relax the "rules" a little bit about bedtimes and such.

Spectro is awesome, and kids love it (adults too!)... I would definitely see it!!! ::yes::

I wouldn't miss it either. If you are worried about getting out of the park before the crowd, stay near the entrance and you can "beat" most of the crowd out. Also, many will stay for Wishes too. My kids love this parade and always have. We are in CST too and it works well when we are at Disney

Bedtime, naps, meals at specific times, all go out the window on vacation for us!

We go to late stuff like Spectro and Wishes and if they don't make it well that's what we have the stroller for.

We saw the 8:30p Spectro for the first time last August and October and my girls LOVED it. They are 5 and 8.

Spectromagic is a not to be missed parade. It was my daughter's favorite too. We are going to Disney in April and we are missing it because it is scheduled for the night we get there, I'm really dissapointed there is only 1 showing for the whole week.

I agree.. Spectro for me has ALWAYS been a don't miss. I'd plan a late start the next day (maybe AK since it opens later) and plan another night to see WISHES and just slip out after Spectro.. I believe it starts on MainStreet (can be very wrong there) but if it does.. you can watch on Main St. and be out the gates before the parade is even over!

Have a great trip. My DD loved Spectro at 3yo.

Thanks to those who responded! OK, how early do I need to be there before the parade starts?

Depends on what time of year you are going and whether you go Saturday night or a weeknight, if its running BUT I'd got at least an hour before to an hour and a half. It also depends on how good a spot you want and where you stake it out. Liberty Square isn't as crazy as Main Street for example.

I got there about 1 hour before (it was Monday night) and I sat on Main Street on the curb about half way down.

My DD4 and DS4 almost always go to sleep on the bus on the way back to our resort even if we haven't stayed up very late! Last christmas after the illuminations was finished my DD looked up from the stroller and said Mommy can I got to sleep? I said sure and she closer her eyes and was out cold. It was very funny. of course- then I had to carry her all the way back to the Fort Wilderness bus stop at Epcot- which seems like a long long way carrying a sleeping sack of potatoes!
