Overall a Thumbs Up.
Rarely is there not The Good , Bad, and the Ugly at a Disney pin event.
The ugly was the usual too long of pin board lines with not much at the end. :confused3 I did three and wondered why I wasted my time. Which is generally what happens.
Guests can visit and trade better and more freely on the floor. And I think many people do just this. The pin lines were lonnnnnng.
One I could not figure out at all. There were THREE boards at one location that could have handled obviously three traders at one time. Instead they did one trader at a time.
I can only come to the conclusion Disney WANTS long pin trades to discourage trading on the pin boards. I think they rather have guests elsewhere, hopefully spending $. :confused3 (Imagine that!) Standing in a line like that, guests just feel like they are missing fun somewhere. Cause it ain't there. :rotfl:
I told someone it is like watching a bad movie and you "have to" see the end. I started standing in line, then realized I would be there an hour or more. I wanted to leave, but figured I had already wasted 20 minutes of my time. Might as well play it out.
I have said it I think after every pin event -- I did not get off a trade board what I could probably not find on a cast lanayard in a park. Rarely do I get anything other than that. pirate: Often I am putting on the boards better than I take off.

On the floor, I was finally able to meet Joette AND I our own Tennisnut. :cool1: :wave2: (Who now will be working on me for us to go to DL first race September 2006. I did not know it was DL's FIRST! Now THAT may be interesting! princess: )

Another minor annoyance was the initial check in and merchandise pick up. It did not seem organized. And new check ins were playing second fiddle to those buying additional merchandise. There were two lines going to one area, and the buyers were the FP line. :rotfl2: :confused3

This year's pins were outstanding, I think. They all looked much better in person. And some are WONDERFUL. I LOVE my Pin 42376: WDW - Spectacle of Pins 2005 - (A Day on the Ice) 2 Pin Set (Jumbos) and Pin 42374: WDW - Spectacle of Pins 2005 - Jumbo Pin (Mickey & the Gang Card). Now #42374 is a PIN! :cheer2:

A big thumbs up to the way they had the artist's signing. They were tucked away in a corner, almost like they were hiding them. But NO line there at all. The artist had also signed items the day before. And most people had apparently already done that.

I LOVE getting the meal vouchers too. We save them for another day. I think they are only good through the end of this year. But that is still good.

Anyone disappointed with the 2005 Osbourne Lights should NOT be disappointed again. I even overheard other guests saying how much better they are this year than last.
No glasses again this year. I guess Osbourbe is now a Bring Your Own Effects Glasses. :earboy2:

With the 2005 SoP event, event attendees had the SoL to themselves, with desserts under a canopy of lights.

This year, the lights were open to the public. No special enertainment at the lights. Nothing but crowds. The crowds were not too bad. But last year was Magical. This year, just the usual Disney magic.

The PLUS side to that was not waiting around killing time until they let us in. There was a trade off. And it was not nearly as crowded as it soon will be. That would be like comparing mid January crowds to New Years Eve crowds.

Disney was concerned about rain, so our dessert buffet was on the Indiana Jones stage, under a metal canopy.
Again, a trade off. We had places to sit and visit. Where last year if we wanted to sit, it was on a curb.

Even with the trade offs, last year was a MEMORY. This year something we may remember.

In one area was Mickey and Minnie for a typical meet and greet. Last year Mickey, Minnie, Stitch and MGM face characters mingled with guests. Much more fun that way.

The worse were the long lines at the lackluster pin boards. But that seems to be expected any more.

SoP has become my favorite Disney pin event. DH still likes the AK 498 pin event from this year the best.
Just forget the pin boards, which rate an "F".

I think it ma be time for Sandy and I to do another pin event... I don't miss the lines and stuff but I do miss the people. Glad you had a great time.

I totally agree about the trade boards being an 'F'! We waited in line over an hour only to get 2 lanyard pins that we already had, only to watch the board being refreshed as soon as we were done trading. What a disappointment!

We were also a little upset with the dessert reception only having coffee available to drink (water was brought out after a few people asked Steven Miller what the kids and adults who don't drink coffee were supposed to drink).

I definitely enjoyed the event in 2004 much more! It was much more fun eating dessert with only event guests among the lights rather than deal with the crowds in the park to see them this year.

Thank you for sharing your detailed report of your pin event adventure! September 2006 ... hhhmmm ... it'll still be the 50th celebration, won't it :)?

Thanks for your report. I didn't get to go this year. Major surgery and not being able to walk and get around. Glad everyone agrees that last year's was so much better. Glad you had a great time anyways w/exception of loonngg lines

Yes, I finally met Luv2Roam and I pulled my DH ( aka pin sherpa) over to talk to her DH ( aka another runner ) to try to talk them into coming to DL in September for the INAUGURAL Disneyland Half Marathon!! :wizard:

I will wear my pin lanyard while running and trade if that will do the trick :love2: Hurry up and sign up :hourglass is running out!

I had a great time at the event. The pin board lines were way too long. I did pass the time watching Tinkerbell129 make four or five trades in LINE!!!
I stood in line one time. I got to the front in hopes of finding some lanyard pins but couldn't take my eyes off of two really, really cute Pluto pins. I decided that the lines were too long and took time away from pin trading and being with my buddies.

I did get a Super Pluto while I was in line with a very nice pin trader. She just gave it to me and said to give her any lanyard pin when I get out of line. Well, I can't remember what she looked like and couldn't find her when I got out of line. If this nice person reads this ...please e-mail me and I will try to find a pin to mail to you. I love my Super Pluto pin!
Tuggnut gave me a golfing Tigger and a nice trader from DL traded the tennis Tigger to me. I think that was it for lanyard pins. I try to keep lanyard pins fun and just trade lanyard for lanyard pins. Since all do not fall into my collection categories ...I can go without until the next trip.

The trip was complete when I got to "hang" with Vince and Suzi. What a fun time they are! They always try to help shy little me get out of my shell.
It's a struggle I know, but I think each time I get better and better. They are always so nice to include my non pin trading DH and make him feel part of the group.
Vince and Suzi were each awarded the CTT and both deserve it. I traded for a Tennis pin AND a Pluto pin with the Parkhoppers. Can't get any better than that.

If any remember Scottakamickey ...well, he had just flown back home to Tampa and then jumped in a car and drove to Orlando to visitate. The trip was well worth it. Fun, Friends, Fellowship, and Festivities ( Spectacle of Pins). Suzi, Susan, and Suzanne...easy for us but confusing for others :rotfl2:

A late dinner at Ohanas and the evening , sadly, was over. A lady from Bowling Green , Kentucky waited on us! Kentucky is everywhere!!! She didn't know the Beach Bend song though :(.

DH and I went to MGM on Monday and most of the SOP pins were still available. Sooo, if you did not go to the event and are coming to WDW soon...you will probably be able to get the pins you want.

Went to Scoops pin talk and he asked some fun "golden" questions and we got to pick a pin off of his lanyard pin lanyard!!! I got a Fozzy Bear.
Licorice and Butterscotch even came out and did some tricks. It was a great talk and there were even some new pin traders there.

Went to Epcot and tried out the new Ice Station or I think it is called the "Cool Club" . You can design your own cup. They sell Coke slushies and another flavor. They still have the sample Cokes from all over the world. They did not have the Ginger Ale ( the only one I will drink ) but a CM said it was coming. It is not in its own little hut any more. It is located behind the glass doors near the fountain.
Got caught in the rain in America and noticed that the Candlelight pins were for sale. Of course , spent MORE money and bought the Candlelight pins and then had to walk to Pin Station for the DVC anc AP Candlelight pins. WOW!
Gotta go home tomorrow and sell the kids :rolleyes1

I have had a wonderful trip. It is so much fun to come to Disney and share my love for pins and Disney with so many great and fun friends from ALL over the USA. I feel so fortunate to come to Disney and "play" with friends from Maryland, California, Florida, Texas, and Indiana. Where else can one say this?

Thank to pins and Disney , I have come out of my shell :rotfl2:

Go Cats :paw:

We leave tomorrow...but I shall return!!!!

Susan

Okay, so now I'm torn. Spectacle of Pins or Sept. pin event. Sept. pin event or Spectacle. I'm open for suggestions!

Didn't they usually do the pin cruise just prior to Spectacle? Does anyone know what's going to happen next year since the cruise is over Halloween?

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

Cyn

"Okay, so now I'm torn. Spectacle of Pins or Sept. pin event. Sept. pin event or Spectacle. I'm open for suggestions! "

It all depends....if you collect Christmas pins, then Spectacle.
I prefer Sept since it is 3 days and lots of pin gifts included in the registration fee.

I have never been to the pin events held in September. I hear and read a lot of good about them though.
The September event starts on a Friday. And I work, unless I take time off. And this year's pins did nothing for me at all.

I really like the gift pins from the sept event and was sorry afterwards that I hadnt sponsered it
