Specific room requests?

I'm a DVC newbie....sorry if this is a silly question :o . Anyway, if I wanted to request a specific room, when would I do that? Would it be when I make my reservation, when my arrival date is closer or should I wait until I actually arrive? When I've stayed at WDW resort hotels (AKL, Poly, etc) I would fax a request to them a few weeks prior to our arrival asking nicely for a type of view or room. However, I'm not sure how this works with DVC.

Thanks :wave2: !!!

For DVC, requests should be made at the time the room is reserved. It has been stated in DVC publications that request faxes are not accepted at the resorts.

Also, it is best NOT to make specific requests, like room number 1234, since CMs will not have any clue as to why that particular room was requested, if it is not available.

General requests, such as:

2nd Floor, near pool, near elevator, near restaurant, near front desk, smoking preference, etc. are best, since you will have a good chance of getting at least some of those requests filled.

Also state if any of those requests are for medical reasons.

I read somewhere that WDW is changing its policy and all resort special requests are being taken with the reservations. No more faxing to the room assigners. I suspect it has gotten out of hand and this will be more efficient.

I agree with Chuck S. Specific room requests are very difficult for the assigners to handle and absent some explanation they have no guidance as to what the next best option might be.

Personally I would stick to just a few major requests.

If I were the room assigner and saw several requests I might just assume that I am probably not going to make that person happy and stick them just anyplace! I was also told to make my requests in order of importance. My only request is "non-smoking" or "smoking" depending on who goes with me and I am fairly sure it has always been met. (I did once request first floor for a friend whose MIL could not do stairs and we got that also)

When I made my reservations for April I only requested non-smoking since I was just thrilled to get the room types that we wanted at this point. In the past, we have done exactly as you mentioned, kept it to non-smoking and one other request (eg. bunk beds at WL if available), etc. I would think that too many requests would get you nowhere fast, as it would seem demanding.

I suppose for some resorts such as OKW or BWV my only issue is how close we might be to the bus stop or elevator since my youngest daughters little legs get pretty tired out after a long day, but that may be handled at check-in.

We're not demanding, but I wasn't sure what the procedure is typically. I know some folks have mentioned corner rooms, better buildings, nicer views etc. So I figured people must be asking for some specifics? Just curious :D . Thanks to all for their helpful responses!
