Specific room locations

I've seen posts from people saying things like "We will be staying in the Mansions at POR in our trip this August", or "We're going to the Cabanas at CSR".

My question is, how do they know what section they are staying in? Is there some way of speficying which part of a resort you're in? I thought you could only book things like water view, king bed, etc. Is this just wishful thinking, or is there a way to specify things like this?

When you make a reservation, you can ask for almost anything you want, including a specific location. They will not guarantee the request, but will note it on your reservation. It may help when you actually get there. I think some requests, like to stay in the mansions at POR instead of Aligator Bayou may be easier to realize that they will honor this. But ask away, they will always add it to the reservation.

A little of both I think. Chances are Disney can accomidate to your request but in those busy times you may not be as lucky.

I've heard that you can fax in a request a few days prior to arrival where you want to stay. In my case I've just asked when we arrived...Disney usually gives me a few different room locations to chose from.
