specific questions about tipping

i will be using the free dining option, and i would like to tip 20-25% at some places, and FAR LESS if i feel the service/food was bad. So can I write cash in the tip space and leave the desired amount on the table? or do we hand it directly to the server?
Also, how about if you don't want to leave a tip...is this even "allowed"?

Very strange, three posts in a row started about tipping. Anway, we're not allowed to talk about tipping anywhere else except the tipping thread. You might as well ask your questions over there, you're going to end up being moved once the moderator finds this.
