Heya-
My mom and I (grown-up so proper thread! :goodvibes: ) are doing our first girls-only trip to WDW the first weekend in October- fly in Friday, fly out Monday, so a quickie. Staying at PO-FQ, and we're not the spa girl types. Anyone have any suggestions for "special" things to do for a mother/daughter trip?

Thanks in advance!

the food/wine festavial is going on at EPCOT!!!!

that say if you drink would suggest going with BC or YC or BW if you can afford it.

after celebrating at Epcot - the world showcase and the buses are a long, long walk.

the resorts that I mention you can walk back to after Epcot closes. So for BC you can be back in your room - before most of the crowd even gets to the exit of Epcot.

for the food/wine definitely worth it!

Looking at the times it looks like the Halloween party is an option for the Friday night we'll be there (Oct 1)- anyone gone w/ just adults? Is it just meant for younger kids? We went to MVMCP during our "clan" reunion so if it's similar, but Halloween- based, that sounds fun... We get in about 10 a.m. Orlando time, planning to drop the bags at PO-FQ and head out! Unfortunately, PO-FQ is the height of our budget unless some REALLY nice deals come out package-wise, but my mom's hoping for the free dining instead...

Which is why I'm up at 6 a.m. on a Sunday.... :surfweb:

I was there in October last year for an adults only trip and a group of us went to the Halloween party...including doing the treat lines :). We had a great time...I would have no worries about going as adults only.

We stayed at POFQ, I liked it. Compact, pretty, quiet, easy to get around. The boats to DTD are nice. Staying there when my daughter and I do our trip in October.

Added: I just realized you'll be there the week before my DD and I get there. We are staying at POFQ, doing the Halloween party, afternoon tea and Food and Wine.

:thumbsup2MVNSSHP is fun for all ages - and yes even the treat lines....:lmao:

would do it!!!:cool1:

I took my Mom on a Mother/Daughter trip last year and we had a blast! We were staying at POR - took the boat to Downtown Disney more than once for a nice afternoon of shopping and a Ghiradelli icecream!

We really enjoyed the atmosphere at the Studios too - good shopping there!

La Nouba might be nice if you like Cirque de Soleil - we wanted to but didn't have time.

We also had tea at the Grand Floridian - it was fabulous - see my POR Trip Report for photos of the food!

Oh, yes, this is a great experience to share! DD (23) and I went last fall... we spent months planning our costumes... I was an overage hippie :hippie:and she, a very stunning Marilyn Monroe :lovestruc...the only ride we did was haunted mansion, but between the parade, fireworks and trick or treating.... made it our mission to hit every station in the park ... there was plenty to see and do... we actually stayed until closing.... got back to the room and dumped all our goods onto the bed counting and comparing our "take" :lmao: I think we both felt like little kids again and agreed that it was the most fun we had had together in a long time... a truly memorable evening :goodvibes

Trying the different offerings at F & W was great, too :thumbsup2

If you think she'd enjoy it, you could go girly with a character meal with either the Princess breakfast at Akershus in Epcot or eat at Cinderella's Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom. When I told people that I was going to have dinner "in the castle" , both adults and kids alike seemed impressed. I've done both and liked playing princess for the day. princess:

There is so much to see do and er... eat at F & W. My favorite Ticketed event is the "sweet sunday's" If you are sweet lovers you can try to get tickets for that when they go on sale. It is sponsored by Asti, so in addition to the very nice brunch that they serve and whatever authors dessert selections are being showcased you get 2 adult beverages ;) or there is always La Nouba.

DM and I went last year to celebrate my 25th birthday and it was amazing!! Going just the two of us was amazing in itself bc we've never gone on vacay before, just the two of us! We also stayed at POFQ.

Some ideas for special events....

1. DM and I went bar-hopping along the monorail and never made it past Narcoossee's. We had an awesome bartender and got to see the Electrical Water Pageant and Wishes! DM is not a big drinker so it was fun to see her have fun.

2. Explore different resorts. We spent a lot of time just walking around and dreaming of staying at deluxes for our next trip. Our faves were the Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge.

3. Definitely do MNSSHP. It was our first hard-ticket event and it was definitely worth it. The parade and fireworks were awesome, there was great character meets, and the treat stations were fun. We were also able to do any major attraction we wanted with less than a 10 minute wait.

Most of all, just enjoy your time with your mom. For me, this was a once in a lifetime experience and it was amazing!

OOooo, y'all have become an inspiration for me! My mother is a huge Dis-fanatic like myself and after reading the posts, I would definitely love to take her for a mother/daughter getaway! Thanks for all the ideas! :yay:

I've done (3) just my mom and me trips and we have a ball:banana:
During the trips my mom was 57, 64, 66.

My mom is not the spa kind of girl (doesn't even own a hairdryer), but we've done the keys to the Kingdom tour, next trip the behind the seeds tour (we like to garden), BUT the highlight of all of our trips has been a meal at 50's primetime cafe!!! They totally picked on my mother and she loved every minute of it!
Our server told her he was much too busy to help her and if she really wanted to be a part of the family, then family helps family. As he's saying it he's taking off his apron and putting it on my mother. He had her go take someones order:laughing:. Then she asked him what the meatloaf looked like and he took her by the hand and dragged her to a table to someone that ordered meatloaf and said.. "she wanted to know what your meatloaf looks like" and left her standing there... the guy eating the meatloaf was a big biker dude w/ tattoos...it was really funny! Then he didn't like the "tone of her voice" and made her stand up against the wall holding a packet of sugar up against it with her nose.:rotfl:... all we did was laugh, and laugh.

We also usually have a few nights (mostly due from being tired) where we're in our beds giggling away... the last trip she almost pee'd herself while we were trying to get back to the room because we were laughing so hard...then of course I had to keep chiming in with "just keep swimming, just keep swimming" which made her have to cross her legs and take a knee. (during our trip we kept finding a shoe during our travels..just one).. one shoe in the middle of the pathway, one flipflop being plucked out of spaceship earth, one shoe in the middle of Animal kingdom..
It was so much fun and something we'll remember for the rest of our lives! Go, have fun!

My best friend and I did a short trip like this and we really loved going over to the Polynesian and sitting on the beach. We sipped drinks, watched the ferry and the monorail go by and chatted til we had our fill. You could do the same thing at the GF if you head there for the Afternoon Tea.

We also were interested in taking one of the tours...segway or behind the scenes but we didnt have time.

Mom and I went a few yeas back. We did a tea at th Grand Floridian, the keys to the kingdom tour (we still talk about this tour) and Dine with an Imaganeer.

Booked the Afternoon Tea for the Monday before we leave, and am planning on the Halloween Party the Friday we arrive... Everything else I think is going to be parks and Food & Wine Festival... She's still hoping for the Free Dining (fingers crossed), but I got all the ADRs we wanted at all the times we needed to balance everything!

:wizard:

Our reservations are October 1-4, so I was up early on Easter getting our ADRs- even if we don't get the dining plan, she wants to "eat fancy". But, she wouldn't tell me any TIMES that she wanted, and we're planning long distance (she's in Illinois, and I'm in Texas) so I double booked everything and will release things once she picks what she wants. 8-D

Friday, October 1 (flying in): Crystal Palace @ 5:35 & Halloween Party (not official but why else would they close MK at 7 on a Friday?!?!??!!)
Saturday, October 2: Teppan Edo @ 1 (to balance out the Bailey's Chocolate Cake!!!!) and California Grill @ 7:45 to watch Wishes at 9.
Sunday, October 3: Le Cellier @ 5 p.m. and Sci Fi Dine In @ 9:20 for milkshakes (late night at HS)
Monday, October 4: Afternoon Tea at GF @ 2, and a last goodbye to the parks before heading out to the Airport...
