Special room requests

I feel like I am forgetting something...what are the special room requests that you all make when you make your reservations?

Usually we just ask for non-smoking. If we are staying at OKW then we add a top floor request. It sounds like the way that they are doing requests and check-in that it really doesn't matter unless you have a request for medical reasons.

Some are pretty easy like non-smoking or medical needs (no stairs, H/C, close in, near elevators, etc), or broad view categories (pool, lake, golf course, woods, etc) or remote area for a more quiet stay.

With the newer resorts adding more H/C accessible rooms, some are now requesting no H/C because of some concern or other. Same with a dedicated 2 bedroom as opposed to a lock-off.

The challenges usually begin with requests for specific buildings, floors, or room numbers. My opinion is that is expecting more than is reasonable.

We request non-smoking. And an upper floor because we want a balcony rather than a patio. So far, no problems.

JimC....are there more H/C Accessible rooms as a percentage of rooms at the new resorts? Compared to what? OKW? BWV? Just curious...I thought they were maintaining pretty much the same percentage of total accommodations for each resort.

Where are you staying? That has an influence over what to request. Always Non-Smoking.

JimC: I'm with Granny on this one. I have not heard that. Is the % changing in fact?

We're staying at OKW. I was thinking about top floor but the stairs would be very hard for a couple the people in my group. Where are the buildings with elevators? And how are they compared to the others?

Also, we are a group of 5 staying in a 2 bedroom and a studio - Grand Villa was not available. Lock-off, non-lock-off?

Thanks for all the answers. What else should I be considering?

The first time (and only) I stayed at OKW was my first trip home. I found a picture on the internet someone had taken from their balcony. I just loved the view. I printed the picture and took it with me. When I checked in I showed the picture to the CM and jokingly said "I want this room!" When I got to the room it was the same exact room as in the picture!

I think Buildings 62-64 have elevators - they are close to HH - good location

I would go with a lock-off unless two entrances are a security concern (for example kids in the 2nd bedroom) - this will give you a kitchenette area in the 2nd bedroom

Thanks

At OKW we don't usually request lock off or non unless we are changing our ressie half way through the trip. A couple years ago we had guests coming the first 5 days, but not the second 5, so we asked for a lock-off so we could reduce from the 2 bed room to 1 bedroom without moving. I actually prefer the dedicated 2 bedrooms, because they have LOTS of extra closet space, and there is no need for the extra kitchenette with the full kitchen available. I also request buildings above #30 if we are going to have any teenager types sleeping in the living room. We had a 1st floor room once, and loved it. No noise from above that time, and it was so handy for our guest who was stair challenged!

Granny and Happy Birthday Cat -- My apologies. Badly worded on my part. The increase in H/C rooms I mentioned above is not based on Disney numbers. It is only my observation that over the years there has been a marked increase in disabled guests and a marked increase in Disney's efforts to reach out and accommodate guests with special needs. That is coupled with discussions I have had with CMs regarding how Disney has changed since it opened in 1971 and how Disney has used refurbishments and newer construction as opportunities to expand its physical capabilites to address those issues.
