Special requests honored?

We are heading to both POFQ and the AKL at the end of April (one month from today) !

How well to the various resorts fulfill special requests? I have requested certain buildings/room locations with central reservations - do you find that they make every effort to grant your wishes (after all, this is Disney!)?

We have found that the resorts make every effort to accomodate your requests, however, they are not guarenteed. Usually, they list your requests in the order that you present them, for instance, non-smoking, queen beds, 3rd-floor. Then, when the room assignor is blocking your room, they start with your first request, if available, and so on. If you try not to make too many specific requests, it makes it easier for the assignors to accomodate you.

Even though it is Disney, not everyone can have exactly what they want. The law of probilities works against you. They can only give you what is available when you check in and it is a balancing act trying to make everyone happy.

I have seen many refferences to what is available on check in, but there are in fact room assigners and about 48 hours before you arrive rooms are blocked for that time periiod. it isn't like you show up, they have 100 open rooms and look for the one that has what you want in it. there may be a few open that you could be changed too but by and large they are blocked by the time you show up. and after all if you had made requests and the room assigners had found and blocked that room for you you would not be too happy if someone showed up at the desk before you got there and requested what you wanted and where given the room blocked for you now would you?

anyway this is how it worked when I worked in reservations.

As previously posted, put your requests in order of importance. Beyond that, I've heard requesting specific room #'s or building #'s is not a good idea and that it's better to request a particular area.-- i.e. rather than requesting room # xyz because you know it is close to the food court, request "close to the food court" -- if you know buildings # xyz and #abc #qrs are all river view and that's what you are looking for - don't request "building #abc" request "river view". You will have a much better chance of getting the requests filled this way and ending up close to where you want to be, if not right on the money vs. them finding they can't fullfill a request for room #xzy because it's already occupied and them putting you somewhere completely oppossite of what you were hoping for.

You are correct. My reference to giving a guest what is available on check in, meant what is available on the date of checkin based on what is available by those checking out on the same date.
