Good luck, Mary!

I called DL Vacation planning this morning "just in case" I missed a PIN code that may have been sent to me, LOL! The person I spoke to was really sweet and said that it was really early for my December trip and that any Winter specials would probably be out in August. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a PIN:worship:

Got my park hopper tickets so am one step closer to our Christmas Vacation :cheer2:

Kauinohea - I'm glad you checked, just to see if there was a PIN code lurking in their system attached to your name. The CM you spoke with said what I would expect them to say - because they don't really know about the Saved Offer trick. When I booked it last December, the CM was totally baffled and had not seen that offer floating around yet. Even though it is becoming more widely known on the DIS now, that doesn't mean the CM's have any clue about it.

Your CM is thinking of general PIN codes that go out in their mass mailings (some people get them; some don't). Those offers would certainly not come out yet. But the Saved Offer is a bit different in that it is proven to, in some cases, go all the way to the holiday season, as was the case with usedmedia's recent PIN offer. Some of us are getting offers that only go up to a certain point, but at least one DIS'er has gotten on that extends to mid-December by doing the Saved trick.

I would just let the current saved offer expire, and the save a new one, in the hopes that there is an actual PIN code on the e-mail they send you!

I do have a My Disneyland account, but have never saved anything to it. I had done several searches for dates in August at GCH, and received a PIN for PPH good August 1-31 ($290/night), as well as the same offers it sounds like everyone else got - $163 PPH, $186 DLH; $247 GCH, for 10/16/ - 11/19 and 11/27 - 12/17. I got it in the mail, not email.

Oh! I bet I know why I got it. I ordered a Disney Parks planning DVD, and in answering the questions said I was considering a trip to DLR in August. So maybe that's another trick to try . . . I just wish they had given me a good rate for GCH!

mrswh - Yep, I've gotten PINS without Saving offers, too. If you did the searches and looked up offers while you were signed into your My Disneyland account, that could be the key. Otherwise, your name got on the PIN list some other way. PIN's have been going out for years to people, so there are any number of sources the DLR database must pull from.

I'm not saying there are not other methods to getting PIN codes. What I'm saying is that everyone always asks about how to get the mythical PIN's and no one ever has a solid path that they can trace back to exactly how it was obtained, and then say with confidence that you will probably get one. It just happens. Tons of people order DVD's and never see a PIN. Or they get on all kinds of other mailing lists and eventually get one, years later.

Somewhere on this forum I have a list of things to sign up for and places to get on mailing lists to increase PIN potential.

But the Saved Offer trick - since last year - seems to be an almost guarantee. Most of the people I have recommended it to have gotten a PIN. There only seem to be a few people who have not gotten a PIN from Saving an offer yet. So right now, this is the main one that can absolutely, definitely be traced back to a particular 'trigger.'

Yes, mine was a tri-fold mailer. It came roughly 3 weeks after I first saved my offer for my September trip.

Definitely taking the advice of so many on this one and saving my planned trips now, just in case.

Also going to be converting our hoppers this trip to AP, so hoping we can get lucky on our fall/winter trip and really hoping to stay on property in March 2012.

D

I received the e-mail from Disney Destinations under the subject "Get a peek at your Disney Resort picks, ______ Family!" But there was no mention of a pin or rate offer anywhere. My dates are in December. :confused3

That's pretty much what Kauinohea and NewbieMouse received, too - and their dates are also December dates! Hmmm...interesting!

And yet, usedmedia, kdubs and mrswh seem to have all gotten PIN's that extend to mid-December, although mrswh's offer was in the mail. But the rates on their PIN codes are the same rates that the rest of us are getting in e-mails!

Thanks everyone for the tip! I tried it out just yesterday and got the "Photo" email in my Inbox just now. We're actually looking to a book a trip from December 16 - December 21. I'll take the discount for the first two nights, but in the email it says that it's "valid for arrivals most nights 12/1/11 - 12/17-11." Do you think it's possible that it could be good for the whole stay? What's that they say about looking a gift horse in the mouth? ;)

kdubs - :rotfl2:Well, of course, it can't hurt to ask but I wouldn't count on it. Usually, if a person gets a PIN, that PIN is specifically intended for that person and to be used within the exact dates that are specified.

Once it starts getting too close to Christmas - and your week is close to Christmas - the PIN codes stop. They always stop around mid-December, so your offer is within the date range that I would expect. At least you got a rate that extends into December! A few other DIS'ers who are going in December would love the PIN code for that time but they have not been sent one yet!

I would just use the code it for 12/16, 12/17 and any day they may let you extend it beyond that. But I don't think you will be able to get a PIN for the full stay.

"convert hoppers to AP" - sorry, what is AP?

thanks for your help.

Annual Pass.

You can upgrade Hoppers to AP's, OR (if you have an AP) you can take a Disney hotel room booked with a PIN code rate and switch to a better AP rate that shows up on the Annual Passholders Hotel Calendar - IF a rate like that is available. The AP rates used to be really great for hotels in the past, but not so much anymore. They are less frequent and there are not as many AP rate days during the month anymore. Often times the PIN code rates are better than the AP rates now.

I made a brand new account a couple of days ago and saved a couple of trips. Got a PIN offer today, but not for the dates I need. Thought I would report it anyway...hopefully it will help someone! For 9/1/11-9/24/11. So try making a brand new account with a different email address to trigger the PIN. I wonder if it would be a good idea to have a PIN thread to track these offers? I know there is one on DIS, but seems like it's mostly for WDW offers.

Stay in the middle of the magic and save up to 35% with rates starting from:
$156*per night

in a standard room
at Disney's Paradise Pier® Hotel

$169*per night

in a standard room
at Disneyland® Hotel

$231*per night

in a standard room
at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa

cpster - glad you got the PIN, but it's too bad you can't use it.

I don't know if we need a separate PIN thread here. Usually threads will pop up when there is a new PIN floating around, like this one.

Even though I was the one who originally told folks on this side of the board about the Saved Offer trick specifically working to get a PIN, I have a feeling there may be some benefit to just kind of waiting to be selected to receive one when the time is right. If thousands of people try to get PIN codes and only a portion of those folks end up using the PIN's, DLR may scale back on sending them out...or they will send out even more PIN's with dates that we can't use.

I'm already feeling guilty that I pushed my luck and tried to get another PIN for this year in October.:rotfl2: I used a PIN last December, not to mention the fact that I got a great rate for this upcoming December. When I received the PIN for this October, I realized I may not be able to use it and it may go to waste because the dates are not right. Since the PIN's are non-transferable, I can't pass it on to anyone else. So it could be a wasted PIN, and I have a feeling that's the case with lots of folks (like with cpster above, who will not be able to use the PIN because the dates are wrong, and that's a PIN that many people would love to have).

We are going in October! Hoping to stay at GCH with a pin code. I'll try the trick you guys mentioned! Thanks!

ryleeranger -

I don't know what your October dates are, but unless they fall between 10/16 - 10/31, you may be out of luck in getting a PIN through this Saved Offer trick we have been discussing. It seems like people are trying to get PIN's for October (myself included) and our dates are earlier in the month, but the PIN's received only covered those last 2 weeks of the month.

So in my case, I will either have to switch to dates I didn't really want in order to use the PIN, or it will go to waste because I can't give it to anyone else (I wish they would make these darn PIN's transferable!). I imagine this will be the case for many people - they can't go at a later time, so the PIN's will go to waste.

However, if you DO get a PIN code that covers your dates, the GCH rate will most likely (though not definitely) be $247 per night. That seems to be the more common offer, although you could get the $231 GCH offer as well.

Good luck!

Just found out my dad had a pin code in his e-mail from 2/11 for travel 2/11-4/14 although I know it passed I was like why didn't you tell me :confused3. It says 40% off GCH 35% for DLH and 30% for PPH. Well here is hoping I will get one :goodvibes

If it makes you feel any better, you probably wouldn't have been able to use it--the PIN code has to be used by the person it is sent to and is non-transferable.

Hopefully you'll get one soon!

Hopefully I do get one soon. I know they are non transferable but I could have had him booked and I would have paid him back. He goes on vacation with us so it wouldn't have been an issue I don't think.:confused3

You would have been fine. As long as the person who got the pin is coming on vacation with you, you are good to go.

I just did the same thing, hoping for a deal in August and got the email for 9/1 to 9/24. Maybe something else will come?? Fingers crossed!

Yup, just tried it for July 24 to 29.

I know, ain't gonna happen, but wouldn't it be cool if it did! The Dobies could switch from PPH to GCH and change our name to the Habbies!!!
