Special orders at buffets?

Has anyone ever special ordered at a buffet restaurant? I'd like to go to the Cape May Cafe. My mom can eat salad, fruit etc from the salad bar but if she would like seafood to make it a full meal, it will need to be specially prepared - i.e. grilled plain no butter. We ususally avoid the buffets because of this. The table service restaurants at Disney are fantastic with special orders. But I've never tried a buffet dinner with my mom before. What do you think? Can they bring her plain grilled fish or shrimp or something that they are serving?

You can call and ask....I have seen the Chefs at CMCB walk the buffet with people with allergies and tell them what they can and cannot eat and at breakfast I have seen them make scrambled egg whites etc

I've never eaten at Cape May, but I've also never had a problem with the Chef's making something for my DD due to her food allergies from the kitchen at any of the buffets we've patroned... Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace, Boma, Hollywood & Vine... or the family-style buffets either.

HTH!

I've seen them do it for allergies at all of the buffets (CMC, Boma, CP etc), but if it's just because she prefers it plain (or whatever the case is) I don't know if they'll do it for that. Allergies & Special Dining Needs (Kosher), are handled very well by Disney. Check out this link

Well, we've been to Cape May, and even the mussels were in a broth with butter in it...don't recall anything on the hot side that didn't have some sort of oil/fat if that's what she's avoiding. Can't remember, but I think there was cold peel & eat shrimp on the salad side. But why go to a buffet if she can't or doesn't want what is on it? If you go to a regular menu restaurant, they will prepare the entrees just as you want them. They'll leave off sauces, skip butter, etc.

Edited to add--just went back & checked my review from last September...they did have peel & eat shrimp on the salad bar, so there is that if she's looking for fat-free eating.

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.
