I have a special needs brother who's turning 40 next month. We are taking him to WDW for his birthday. We haven't spilled the beans....yet. (even though he tell's everyone he's going:rotfl:) We will actually be there on his birthday. I would love any ideas and/or suggestions to make this a very special trip. I know ya'll are creative..HELP!!

**edited to add** He has no health issues. I only mentioned special needs to gather "age appropriate" ideas. TIA

A character meal, of course! Or does he like pirates? pirate:There's that new Pirate Adventure in MK. Since you state your brother is Special Needs I wasn't sure what age group would be appropriate. Here's a link for suggestions for children's parties on Allears.

What a great gift and he's really lucky to have a sister like you! Have a great BD celebration. :bday:And tell him Happy Birthday from all of us at DIS!

That's the hard part. He's able to do quite a bit, but probably is like a young teen in many ways...a child in other ways and can be a grouchy "old man" at times!!

I was hoping to find a fun "40th Birthday" t-shirt. We are doing the individual Mickey cakes and have reservered Wishes Dessert Party. I have Mickey decorations for the Villa.....

He starts planning his next birthday the day after his last one!!! I want this to be quite memorable for him. He's a wonderful baby brother.:goodvibes

Sounds like he has a wonderful family as well! I don't have any suggestions, just wanted to wish you all a great vacation! :goodvibes It sounds like you have some fun things planned....do they sell "birthday" Mickey ears that he could wear on the big day?? (oh, there's my suggestion!)

Check out the Wishes cruises. Taking a private boat out into the Seven Seas Lagoon to watch the fireworks is a great way to celebrate anything. If you've never done it before, it's also very memorable. We did it for the first time on our last trip, and absolutely loved it.

They'll also decorate the boat with balloons and a "Happy Birthday" banner for a small fee.

We just went with the chips and soda that come with the boat, but you can also have it catered by room service of whichever resort you leave from. The boat next to us had a bottles of chilled champagne and trays of finger sandwiches delivered while we were sitting at the dock.

Not a big thing, but we thought it was cute... While you're out in the park or resort, ask a cast member who has a phone to connect you to the birthday message. There's a phone number they can call, and Goofy says happy birthday to you. A CM at one of the small carts in Fort Wilderness did this for my niece a few years ago while we were waiting to go into Hoop-Dee-Doo. She saw my niece's birthday button and handed her the phone saying, "someone wants to talk to you."

How fun! Be sure to get a birthday button for him - many cm will stop to wish him well

how about decorating the room before he gets there? (whoops, just saw you already planned this)
and/or disneyflorist.com can deliver a special birthday package for him - or you can design your won birthday basket for him and tell him Mickey left it for him

I second the idea of a character meal - quite magical for a birthday treat

there is a very cool birthday cake hat he can sport

don't know what he is in to - but maybe one of the tours would be an adventure for him?

I am sure he will have the best time ever!

Happy 40th to your bro! :cheer2:

I bought logo Disney t shirts from the online store and the back is being screen printed with info about our "family gathering" 2 birthdays, 1 retirement, and 1 first visit = one magical celebration. There are some great designs on the creative board here, if you're savvy at computer printing too.

Thanks for all the ideas!! I definitely need a specialty tee. He tells every person we see that I turned 50 this year. I'm going to get a little payback. All of WDW will know he's turning 40!!!:lmao:

Please don't miss going to guest services on his birthday and telling them it is his birthday, as Desiree1972 point out.

All day CM will approach and offer warm Happy Birthday wishes, and a few other surprises, too! This year they are giving those with a birthday on the day you visit the park either free entrance for that day, $75 gift card, or a number of Fast Passes to a few selected attractions.

Have a great time. :wizard:

Definitely get him a birthday button...it garners a lot of attention and free desserts! Also, on the actual day of his birthday, make sure you get the freebie stuff Dizny Dad spoke of in the previous post. The $75 gift card is for merchandise (not food) but it doesn't expire.
