Special Needs at Polynesian

My mother, boyfriend, and I are planning on travelling to WDW for the first time this coming up december. I've taken the role as the planner while my mother just listens to all of the fantastic things I've planned up for us (and pays the toll )

My mother has spinal muscular atrophy. She has troubles getting up and down from things, and just has trouble with a variety of physical maneuvers.

The problem is my mother wants a MK view from her hotel room. We've been told by the Polynesian staff that there are no handicap accessible rooms that have a MK view.

So questions:
1. How large is the area in front of the toilet? Is it large enough for a small walker and some space?
2. Is there any kind of handrail in the showers in a regular room? If no, can we request a hand-held showerheads in a regular room? (My mother would be able to take a shower while sitting down on a bench and using the hand-held showerheads.)
3. Does anybody have any good pictures of the bathrooms in the renovated standard rooms?

Have you thought about the Contemporary Tower with the Park View specified?

One thing is you are just an elevator ride away from everything, and the corridors are not long.

The bathrooms have a secondary room with a toilet and sink; this is easily large enough for a person with a walker. I do not recall if there is a grab bar at the entrance to the shower; I do know they will provide a shower seat on request.

Also, I know the 12th Floor (Tower Club, not full concierge) has a HA room on the Park side which is right off the elevator lobby.

Join the club....if you want to stay at the Poly in an accessible room you can only get a garden view in a building furthest from the GCH. I think "Steffali" was planning a trip with her daughter/family and staying in a regular room, hoping to be able to access the bathroom area. Perhaps when they return they might have that information. Otherwise "tikiman's" website is fantastic and he might be able to answer also. ---Kathy

Well, my mom loves the atmosphere at the polynesian. We thought we'd stay at the contemporary in the beginning, but we need 2 queen beds and they only have king beds with no day beds in their handicap accessible rooms (or so I've been told).
