This was posted by someone on the Community Board, but the people there like to debate too much! Just looking for some opinions and experiences on the Special K diet. It has changed a lot over the years. Here is the plan...

Breakfast-bowl of cereal with skim milk and fruit

Lunch-another bowl of cereal or a meal replacement bar
fruit and veggies

Dinner-eat a "sensible meal"

You are allowed 2 snacks during the day (Special K snack bar, cereal bar and protein water) and as many veggies and fruit as you want. (I would recommend limiting the fruits because of the sugar content.)

Does this sound reasonable?

honestly, if I were going to do a cereal diet, I would pick a cereal like Kashi Go Lean or Good Friends, basically something with some nutritional value (protein and fiber).

It is not a diet that you can stick with. Where is the protein coming from? Your body needs a variety of foods, with a variety of nutrients to function properly.

The cereal and meal bars have protein, fiber and lots of nutrients. You can eat protein and other things for dinner. It's not like you are ONLY eating cereal.

The Special K diet is one of the worst I've ever seen. It's nothing more than a marketing ploy to sell more cereal.

Not healthy at all. You aren't going to stick with that for the rest of your life, which is what a diet should be. A lifestyle change, nobody is going to eat cereal two times a day forever. And moreso they *shouldn't* be eating it so much. Cereal is not especially healthy. You need more real foods. Try shopping on the perimiter of the grocery store.

I see now that this is the wrong place to come for support. Thanks...

I have to agree that there isn't enough protein in the diet. Please just look and see on a nutrician website that you need more protein than what is in Special K. The Special K diet is just a diet, it isn't a lifestyle change which is what really needs to happen for the weight to stay off.

I'm sorry you don't feel like you were supported, you asked if people thought it was reasonable and they gave you their honest opinions, just because it wasn't what you wanted to hear or people just agreeing with you, you don't feel supported. There are so many of us on this board who have struggled with weight for years and plenty who have struggled their entire lives and they come here to support each other and to give their insight, perhaps they are just passing on their mistakes to help you avoid making the same ones.

If you decide to do this diet, everyone on this board will support you. I've been here for years and have NEVER read anything that was not supportive and encouraging. You asked for an opinion and got one, well, more than one.

Honestly, you asked a question (if the Special K diet was reasonable) and people answered you with what I thought was helpful advice.

Do you want support, or do you want honest answers?

You asked if the Special K diet was reasonable, and simply put, its not. There are many other better diet plans out there. The Special K diet is nothing more than a marketing gimic.

But good luck to you with whatever you choose.
