What do you buy a married couple who mean a lot to you but have everything? We are clueless?? Would like to get them a combined gift.

Any situation like this usually requires some creativity or thinking outside the box IMO. It's certainly one of those situations where the thought and effort mean a lot.:)
I generally think towards "experiences" when someone is hard to buy for. Play tickets? Balloon ride? A gift certificate to a spa? Those are just a few ideas but you can think of their interests and find them something fun to do:)

You can give gift cards for dinner somewhere (if they have a favorite place) or maybe make a "night in" basket..wine, pasta, sauce, Biscotti and maybe a movie and some popcorn. Matching robes, movie tickets....idk hopefully i helped some..lol

I like your thinking, I was also wondering if there is a unique gift basket online somewhere?

There is a lot of websites for baskets..i personally like making up my own, that way you can add as much as you want and you can make sure you can get the person all of their favoites! (and its less expensive..lol)

I'm giving my couple friends a bottle of wine from a local wine/restaurant and Yankee Candle set.

Gift cards to a restaurant is nice too.

Do they have any "cause" that means a lot to them (the arts, animals, children, diseases)? Consider a donation in their name to their favorite charity.

Perhaps a unique experience they may not have done yet. A PP suggested a hot air balloon ride, maybe a moonlight dinner cruise, or a couples massage.

Do they enjoy culture, or the outdoors, or "fill in the blank"? Maybe get them an annual pass to a local museum or a pass to the national parks (this is very economical if they happen to be seniors!).

Nope they aren't really into all that kind of stuff, just like to stay home. Not drinkers either. My budget doesn't allow for some of the suggestions like hot air balloon rides, massages, etc. We are only looking to spend no more than $100.

What about a set of DVD's? We have the whole series of X-files, the Walton's, and Little House on the Prarie. Love all of them.

Do they have Netflix? If they don't, get them a Roku box, hook it up, and give them a 4 month subscription to Netflix. My in-laws loved this gift last year.

What about Planet Earth or a National Geographic travel DVD set?

We have a weekly game night with 2 other couples. We exchanged gifts yesterday. One gave a gourmet box of chocolates, the other a mickey head shaped chip/dip bowl and mickey hand shaped plates (she knows us well ;) ) and we made hot cocoa gift baskets. Flavored Cocoa, marshmallows, cookies and mint hershey kisses.

I am thinking about buying our friends who have everything, etc. etc a sodastream machine and accessories. He is supposed to cut back on sugar, so I am thinking this might help. She is really picky about sweetners and stuff!

In the past we have also done nights at a local casino, season passes to state parks, and my favorite... a limo ride with our family to look at the Christmas lights! (I would do this again in a heartbeat!)

Good Luck! I love our friends dearly, but would be happy to skip the gift exchange all together!

Someone who is "supposed to cut back on sugar" needs to pretty much eliminate sodas and may need to limit fruit juices to very small (say 4 ounce) portions. Splenda and other sweeteners may contribute to the cravings for sugar. A soda making machine would probably not be a good gift for a prediabetic (written by someone who did not beat prediabetes and based on the diabetes research I'm studying now).

The Soda stream also have diet flavors as well as just making soda water that is great for adding your own flvors and making a traditional soda :)

Yes, I read about the different flavors. Someone who needs to cut back on sugar does not need somethihng to make any sort of soda with, whether it be diet or regular. Splenda (the sweetener in the Sodastream mixes) can contribute to the cravings for sugar. Sugar substitutes differ in their effects on the blood glucose level of different people. In other words, this is not a positive thing to do for someone with this health problem.

how about a night out with all of you? not a restaurant (that is a bit too ordinary), but maybe a mystery dinner, local play, etc
and be sure to take a great photo of all of you....frame and give it to them afterwards.

it would be a great memory (something "special"), with a picture to remind them how precious your friendship is to them also.:)

Sadie, Thanks for the advice! I was thinking he could use the soda water with flavorings and would ultimately be getting less sugar and artificial sweetners. Splenda is one sweetner his DW approves of. Not sure of the logic.

Guess I will have to rethink. They are really hard to buy for 56, and 66 yo no kids, no real hobbies super sweet do anything for our family! They always get my kids nice expensive clothes, my DH expensive shirts (that he will actually wear! ) and me ... well I am probably as hard to buy for as them! LOL!

Bless you! I was worried those who like the Sodastream would think I was picking on them, but honestly anything that tempts someone is not a good idea for a gift. My own brothers continue to give me cookies and homemade peanut brittle as gifts. :confused3

I was a Pepsi addict pre-diagnosis. I use Splenda once in a while. There is some research saying it is fine for diabetics and prediabetics, which perhaps is what the wife has read about. There is other research that it is not, as well as much anecdotal evidence that sticking to plain water is much better in the long run.

Good luck!
