I was looking at another website that gave a government/military and teachers rate for the Swan and Dolphin..??
Anyone know more about that? Or used a teacher discount before?
I am currently a substitute teacher.. (just started this year) so I haven't worked alot, but it said you just need your id or a paystub... The teacher rate at Swan was about the same as my rate at POFQ... ( Is Swan nicer thatn POFQ?)

Anyone think I would qualify? How does it work? Do all resorts have this discount? Questions.. questions... The wheels in my head are spinning.. thinking of all the extra souvenirs to buy with the extra cash :cool1:

TIA!!!

At the Swan and Dolphin, you sure can use the teacher discout if you are a substitute teacher. :sunny: :sunny:

I think that they ask that you bring a school Id that names you as a teacher, or a pay stub with the school name willl also work. Book early as there are very limited rooms with this discount and ask specifically what you need to bring with you. Enjou the reosrt, the pool it wonderful, location is great too. Have a great time. ::MinnieMo
Those are the only resorts aht I know of that offer teacher discount. We like POFC and Swan/Dolphin so I cannot tell you which to choose. We like all of the resorts so we are no help in that area.

Swan is ritzy. It's like a grand hotel kind of feel, with less of the Disney "touch" you feel more at POFQ. I stayed at Swan last March with boyfriend, I'm a teacher, and we loved it. Very romantic. If you have kids they might like POFQ better with the pool and slide. However if you want to relax yourself, Swan it is. I think they have about 6 hot tubs to choose from. It's incredible.

Have stayed at both and for adults the Swan is WAY better. The restaurants there are pricey but fantastic!! The service is excellent - better than our recent stay at the Beach Club. I just used the teacher discount ($99/night)and no mention of it was made at check in - didn't have to have any ID at all. That doesn't seem to be the rule though, so I would be prepared.

POFQ was boring to me. Nothing going on for adults really. Also, I felt claustrophobic (sp.?) in the room. No sliders to a balcony or patio - just a window that you have to keep covered because the walkways are right outside of the rooms. The pool at the Swan is pretty cool although I must admit that isn't a big draw for me when I go with just the hubby. The location of the Swan is much better than POFQ. You can walk over to the Boardwalk and to EPCOT - there is also a boat. I believe that from now on, the EPCOT resort area will be my first choice.

The Swan is a little less Disnified, but that's not always a bad thing. It just feels a little more grown up to me, and I really enjoyed that on this last trip - just got back on Sat. Have fun whichever you choose.

I stayed at the Swan on a teacher's rate during spring break, 2004. I am a substitute teacher and brought a pay stub and my certificate. They took a copy of the certificate. The rate was $139 for Dolphin and $149 for Swan, plus $10-11 per day charge for paper, etc. AT that time, they would not let us decline this service, but now I hear it is no longer mandatory.
It was great. If you planning on going in 2006, the rates maybe out, or coming out soon.
Disney resorts do not have teacher's discount.

The location is wonderful, walk to Epcot or Disney Studios. We were the 1st one picked up on the bus, and the 1st dropped off. But bus routes can change.
Also Swan and Dolphin are NOT on the Magic Express free transfers from the airport to resort.

Have a great time

I love the Swan! Be sure to sign up at Starwood for the SSG program and earn points for your stay. I just wish I could get a teacher rate for Jan/Feb. Nothing to be had as of yet! I will not give up though! :goodvibes

No comparison between POFQ and the Swan! POFQ is lovely, but it is a motel when all is said and done. Swan is a luxury resort, with fabulous service, wonderful restaurants and a location that can't be beat. You can walk or take the boat to Epcot and MGM. Bus service to MK was great, although Swan/Dolphin are picked up and dropped off last now.

The grotto pool, with waterfall and slide, is the best one on site, except for Stormalong Bay at YC/BC. You get EMH just like all other Disney resort guests. While some think these hotels are not as "Disney-like", we really like them. They might be a bit more adult, but they are fanciful in theme and have pretty fountains and such. There are often conventioneers, but they have their own area and I prefer conventioneers in the lobby to screaming/misbehaving kids all over.

If you qualify for a teacher's rate and it is offered, I say go for it!
