Special diets

I posted this on the gluten free thread, but thought I’d put it to a wider group as well. My family is gluten free due to celiac, and we’ve had pretty good luck in the past getting decent options at DLR.

Like others, I’ve been disappointed in the severely curtailed menus and lack of information about allergy- friendly options at all the food services. Do they have gf buns? Pizza crusts? Who knows?? There has not been a link to the Special Diets team email on the website since the closure.

I have a reservation for Cafe Orleans on 6/24 and, on a hunch, I pulled up the Special Diets email from my archives from 2019, to ask about a gluten free Monte Cristo. You used to be able to arrange to get one if you emailed these guys ahead of time, if you had reservations at Blue Bayou or Cafe Orleans.

I first got an automated response saying that DLR is currently closed (hah, not any more, baby!) so the Special Diets dept is not in operation. So I figured they must not be back up and running yet. However, a day later I got a real live response, and they are arranging it for me!
So, good news that Special Diets are back to answering questions for dietary needs! special.diets@disneyland.com

I see the Nachos are now listed as GF. I called about them ages ago and was told the 'toppings' were GF but the chips were fried in a common fryer. I suggested then that they either get a dedicated fryer, use 'commercial' GF chips, or allow the guest to bring their own chips. They told me they'd pass the suggestion on but that I was perfectly free to bring my own chips. I'm glad to see they've paid attention to me AND I'm sure the countless others who have made the same suggestions.

I find it really sad that DL seems to be doing such a poor job accommodating allergies right now. WDW is doing a wonderful job. Of course, they've been open longer but then again DL would have had the opportunity to send culinary teams/management to WDW way ahead of DL's reopening to learn their methods.
