Are special financing options (honda and subaru) really common? (Like 0.9%)Or is it something that usually just comes up once a year and we need to jump at it?
Also can you negotiate the price and then tell them you want the special financing?

On foreign cars special financing is not offered as much as domestic- and in the end will effect the trade in value of your car if it offered on a regular basis. So consider that when you purchase. Also go in knowing your credit rating for all parties signing to purchase- usually the lowest interest is only offered to scores above a certain number (usually higher than 750).

Low interest loans are only available to those with very high credit ratings. Also, if the manufacturer is offering a rebate you won't be able to take advantage of the rebate AND the low interest loan. There are calculators online that allow you to compare. You may come out ahead with a credit union loan and a rebate. You may also not be able to negotiate the best price with the low/no interest loan. The dealers always walk away with a profit so it is worth taking a moment to compare your options.
