Special 9/1/08 Cruise Continued - Part 3

Georgie - I probably already asked, but, are you doing the race? If so, we will probably see you there. If not, maybe we will still run into you at Epcot. Have a good trip!

Good Evening all.

Just stopping by to say "HI" and keep the thread from page 3.

Enjoying the wonderful fall weather so far. However.....

SNOW is forecast for next week.

Still throwing the dice on our next cruise.:confused3

Hi all,

Peter, so glad you are home. A 30-foot fall! OMG! Thank heavens no worse happened! We hope your healing is fast and as pain-free as possible.

Wayne and I decided to try the westbound repo in September 2010 from Barcelona in a Cat. 7; Tracy's helping w/that (thanks, Tracy :worship: ). We're really excited since we've never been to Europe. I'm just glad there's so much expertise available on the DIS, otherwise it'd be a little overwhelming.

Hi Joanne and Wayne: So nice that you are going on the Sept. 2010 cruise from Barcelona. Ken and I have not discussed any plans yet -- we are going down in January for 4 days and have a cruise planned for January 2010 - a short one to Nassau with our daughter and two granddaughters along with Rob, Amber and their new little one who will be born in March. We will be spending New Years Eve at WDW. Have a nice weekend. Barbara

SNOW is forecast for next week.

We had our first snow (Colorado Springs) yesterday. Since people were not prepared to drive in the snow yet, there were quite alot of traffic accidents:eek:

Reading all your plans for the 2010 cruises sounds exciting. Allen & I won't be cruising again till 2011 (our 20th anniversary). I promised Allen that we'd go to Alaska because he's been wanting to do that for years. So I'm hoping that it will be with Disney, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Anyone going to WDW in June 2009? We're going & I'm thinking about driving this time - 1850 miles one way with only two drivers! The drivers would be me and teen son who is just beginning to learn to drive now. :scared1: DH will help to drive back to Colorado but since he won't have enough vacation time we'll fly him out about a week after we get there.

Am I CRAZY to even consider this??:scared:

We're planning on two weeks at WDW then we want to explore Vero Beach, other Florida Beaches, the Everglades & maybe even drive the Keys Hwy before heading back to Colorado via Smokey Mtn Natl. Park. We're thinking this will be our last BIG family vacation together because we expect our teen sons to have summer jobs in 2010.

Take care everyone, especially Jenn & Peter!

Sharon, I don't think you're crazy to drive as we drive all the time to WDW. For us it is 1,262 miles (20 hrs & 20 min) from our house to Pop Century. I do all the driving and driving down we take 2.5 days and I do the drive home in 2 days. I try to drive during daylight hours and we now have our drive down to a science (we've driven 7 times now) and our route all planned out. We tend to stay at the same hotels on the drive down & home and I pre-book the hotels so it doesn't matter what time we arrive at the hotel, we have a guaranteed room.

A lot of people think it is waste to spend the time driving when you can fly in such a short time but for us we enjoy the drive and by driving it allows us to pack what we want and to buy what we want.

We too are passing on the 2010 cruises, it looks like we will be going be doing a DCL cruise and WDW in May 2009.

Elaine, I really like the idea that we can pack whatever we want! A cooler and a crock pot are nearly impossible to drag onto the plane. Could you just see me trying to do that?! :rotfl2: Wow, I could even take the noodles I like to use in the pools. :cool2:

As far as a waste of time, (for this trip) I don't think so either because the boys will just be getting out of school for the year and what better way for them to spend their time by seeing parts of the United States they've never seen. With flying Allen out to WDW later, he doesn't have to burn up as much vacation time so it seems like a win-win situation, and if the gas prices remain lower then that's another plus.

I would also prebook hotels and try to drive during daylight hours too. We'd leave on a Friday morning, maybe even before daybreak and plan on getting to WDW on Sunday. (1850 miles in 3 days) Elaine that's almost 1/3 more miles than you do in 2.5 days. Do you think I'm being reasonable in my travel time estimation? :confused3

Sharon...I think it's possible....we too leave before daybreak but we stop for lunch at a Cracker Barrel and also we stop each day for about a 2 hour shopping break....we hit the Prime outlet mall in Grove City PA on day one and on day 2 we stop at a Super Wal-Mart in Mooresville NC and a Hobby Lobby in SC so we are not constantally driving. We usually arrive each night at the hotel around 6 pm or so check in and grab a bite to eat at either Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel (I make sure to book hotels that have these restaurants at the same exit as our hotel). I think it's possible...it would be about 620 miles per day driving so @ 70 miles an hour would be almost 9 hours of driving....it is a lot but you can also make it a lot of fun.

Good luck on your decision....we've seen cars from all over the US, including Alaska once in the parking lot of WDW!!!!

Sharon your trip sunds great, however when I fly with a **** pot I just wear it as a hat.

Hey Scott.....I hope you and Lynn have fun at WDW....and Happy Birthday in advance :bday:

Mom and I were planning to send you a card...and I thought I found the perfect one....except I must have read it too fast in the store and when we went to send it we noticed it was for "brother"...opps....oh well...Mom and I still hope you have a really great day!!!!

We're off to Mouse Beach and the Food + Wine Festival this weekend. Work has been hectic (know I always say that) and it will be a good break for us.

I'm so jealous!!!!! I'm starting to go into WDW withdrawl and it's only been 2 months!!!!!

Up eearly so what else in new, Lynn is sleeping hey get up we are going to WDW!!!!!

We drive, too, but our limit seems to be about 400 - 450 miles a day. Of course, we're 60, and you're young, so that will make a difference. We have found it's important to keep well hydrated, snack or a butterscotch when we get the "yawns" and stop at regular intervals for a little brisk walk. We take a cooler stocked with healthy food and water and only stop for a sit down meal at night.

Unfortunately the interstates where we can make the most time aren't very interesting, but they do have convenient hotels. We try to always stay at one of the Marriotts (pick your chain of choice) so I can call the rewards number and book when we figure out how far we're really going to go on a given day.

Good luck and have fun.

PS. My appliances of choice are a coffee pot and a fry pan. I can even make pizza in it, lol.

Oops sorry about the slow cooker non PC name use LOL, it is very good to see the site is monitored, for bad words, my hat is off.

400 to 450 mile is an afternoon drive in Wyoming LOL.

Finally at WDW and I think we could have driven faster, sat at the gate for 3 hour before we left, maint paperwork issue.

Hey Scott and Lynn,

Have a great time (both literally and figuratively!) in the race tonight!

We did the TOT was fun. Got in last night at 3:00, up and at it already not sure where we will head out to.

Good Morning Everyone.
Nice quiet morning here.
Got the doggie stuff done :dogdance:
Soaked for a while with a big mug.:goodvibes
Time to catch up.

Football homecoming weekend here.
Yesterday was the big day.
We did the Breakfast Club rounds, tailgated and then watched a sad football game.
But the day as a whole was great.
Always is when you can hang out with friends and family.:thumbsup2
Everyone is on their way now.

We are almost sure that our next cruise will be the first Tortola cruise next year.
By that time we will decide which European cruise we will do.
Leaning toward the first Baltic (not Batlic).:lmao:

Everyone have a great day. :wave2:
