Special 9/1/08 Cruise Continued - Part 3

Hi everyone, Jenn here..
Just wanted to let you know that Pete is in the hospital. He took a bad fall yesterday at work. All should be fine, but he broke 7 ribs and is in miserable pain. I don't know how long he will be there, but I will let you all know. I am on my way to see him now. I hope they gave him enough meds to sleep through the night. I have a feeling today will be worse for him than yesterday as all the muscles start to hurt too!! Ok.. update later

Oh no! Please let him know that Ron and I will be thinking of him and sending pixiedust: for a speedy recovery.

Tim and I send best wishes for a speedy recovery for Peter.

Jenn, I'm sorry to hear about Peter's fall. Sending you both :grouphug: prayers and pixie dust and hoping he recovers quickly.

Jenn,

Please give Pete our best wishes too. He must be in so much pain. And try to rest in a hospital? Yeah, right.

(BTW, how was your book?)

Georgie, I hope you're feeling better soon, too.

Pixie dust for everyone!:wizard:

With Peter out of commission (I hope is isn't in too much pain).....I will continue with Ken's Arthritis Ride Updates....here is Day 5 & Day 6

Arthritis ride update - day 5

Hello from Oceano (near Pismo Beach).

It was a fun and fast 60 miles today. I left camp at 8:00am and arrived at the next camp at 12:04. The gear truck wasn't even at camp yet - so off I went to my favorite lunch spot of the ride - the Rock-n-Roll Diner. If you are ever in the Oceano area, you have to try this place!

Todays ride was mostly flat and we had a few spots with nice tail winds - so it gave me a chance to go fast for a while. Always a fun day.

The weather was funny today. We started out in fog and mist. We got some sun in Cambria (about 10 miles in) and then the fog came in again. It stayed foggy until we past Morro Bay (about 36 miles) and then the sun finally came out and it warmed up. But that wasn't the end. Once we hit the ocean again, we got cloud cover again. So no sun this afternoon in camp.

Tomorrow is a climb up to Solvang. Not a big climb, but you are going up hill for a long time. But there is a light at the end of this tunnel. My incentive to get into camp early is wine tasting at one of our favorite wineries - Lucas and Lewellen. I know where I'll be at about 3pm!

More tomorrow from Solvang - that's assuming I can type at that point. ;)

Arthritis ride update - day 6

Hello from Solvang!

64 miles today. I left camp at 7:30 - it was 51 degrees. At the top of the last climb of the day at 11:30 - it was 99 degrees! It's HOT.

Made it in to camp at 12:04. I was first in. They almost had the truck unloaded, but my stuff wasn't off yet. So I helped move a few bags until mine came out of the truck. I don't think this qualifies as helping to unload the truck. ;)

Camp is setup, and I'm stuffing my face with big Subway sandwich. Shari is on her way up to spend the afternoon wine tasting.

Sad news to report. A rider was seriously injured yesterday by some nut case in a car who was yelling at riders and swerving at riders. He finally hit one guy. The rider had to be flown to Santa Barbara. I've heard that the driver was found but I don't have anymore info.

Off to Ventura tomorrow. About 80 miles or so. It's aways nice to ride into Ventura and spend the night at home.

More from home tomorrow.

Jenn,

Sorry to hear about Peter, one broken rib is bad enough, 7 must be the worst.

Tell Peter we're thinking of him and hope he makes a speedy recovery. :grouphug:

You take it easy too, don't spoil him to much!

Hi all,
Just wanted to update you on Pete. He is still in the hospital, looks like it is going to be at least a few days. He has some bruising on his lung that is making it hard to breath. Hopefully all the oxygen they are giving him along with some respiratory therapy will help. I am on my way there now, so I will keep you updated as I can. Thanks for all the well wishes! I will let him know that everyone says get well!!

Here's the latest update from Ken....

Arthritis ride update - Day 7

Hello form home! (Ventura)

Day 7 started with sunshine and the weather held all day. It was a great day for a bicycle ride! Temps stayed in the mid to high 70s all day.

I hit the road at about 7:40 and finished the 81 miles at 12:50. I was like a stable horse - I smelled the barn and there was no stopping me.

I'm home now - the bike is clean, the riding apparel is clean and it's time for a glass of wine (after all - it's five o'clock somewhere).

Ride went well today - riding into Ventura is always a highlight for me.

Tomorrow is the last day. It's hard to believe that it's almost over. One more day and then it's back to reality for me.

More after the finish tomorrow in Santa Monica.
