Speaking of water on rides...

Reading the thread about getting soaked on POC reminded me of another water issue. When we rode Kali River Rapids in November (2015) there was no longer a center pedestal as a "protected" dry area on the raft. We always used to stuff purses, backpacks, etc., into the area and flop the cover down; it kept our belongings reasonably dry. This area has been removed from the rafts (or at least the one we rode on), so people held their packs in their laps. I felt so bad for the couple that got soaked; they'd had dry socks and tee shirts in their pack, but of course the backpack and its contents were soaked, too. Another rider in our raft wrapped her poncho around her pack- not around herself with the pack under, as it was 92 degrees, just wrapped her backpack to keep it dry. It was pretty annoying to have no safe, dry place for my backpack.

Does Kali not have lockers? Grizzly River Run in CA does and they're an excellent resource.

last I know there are free lockers right next the entrance of Kali to store your stuff, I saw them months ago but haven't been toward that area so not sure if they are still there

I was just there (early November) and the free lockers are still there, near the entrance of Kali.

I was on the Maharajah Jungle Trek and saw a couple that was absolutley soaked. We got to talking and they mentioned that there was no longer a place on the ride for belongings so their dry things were also wet. I mentioned the lockers to them and they said they never saw them.

I don't know if people don't want to take the extra time to put their things in them, they don't know that they're free or if they think they won't get too wet. I feel like they're in an obvious enough location but maybe not?

I think the point of the OP was to let people know.
We were there in Nov as well. I did not leave my wallet or anything else in a locker because I just assumed I would use the "dry bucket" as well.
I was very surprised when we got there and it was no longer available and of course I was the one the got soaked. Wish I would have had this thread
before I got on the boat. :)

Yup, just wanted to let people know about this, as I didn't know (and after 27 trips to WDW, I guess I just assumed I know!). I'm glad the lockers are available, but I've never seen them before and wouldn't have looked for them, as I was expecting to use the dry place in the middle of the raft!

Do the lockers really lock, and are they secure? I'm not sure how I'd feel about leaving an expensive phone, tablet, camera, etc., in the locker.

I've never used them bu I'm pretty sure it's a electronic locker, it gives you a code I believe

For small and expensive items, I would say a couple of zip loc bags are the way to go. Bigger items, I would put in the lockers.

Have to second a few posters on here.... I was so used to having that middle dry area that my friend and I didnt even think to look for lockers.... I got drenched but kept my purse fairly dry.... I will know for sure next trip! .... and to bring a pair of clothes to change in to lol... I was one who never got completely drenched on a ride and I got drenched this year on quite a few rides... but it was fun and definitely not complaining :)

I haven't been since they put the lockers in, but I never used that middle compartment because it's really only big enough to hold 3 or 4 people's things. I carry a backpack and would just hold it under my poncho.

Thanks for the heads up OP! I'm actually happy to hear this. In June I put my woven fabric bag in the little area in the raft and it came out damp and smelling absolutely atrocious to the point I thought it was ruined! I know it's due to humidity and water but that hadn't happened before. I never knew there were free lockers but I'll do that next time! Silly me hadn't thought to put my boyfriend's poncho around it for added protection, either.

On our first trip to disney I did a lot of researching. We used the lockers and had brought flip flops AND a change of clothes. We got soaked but had dry clothes to change into and just put the wet clothes in a plastic bag in our backpack. The lockers were very secure

I was expecting the dry bucket too! In fact I may have been the rider in your boat who wrapped her poncho around her cinch pack as that is what I ended up doing on our 92 degree November day! I asked for the bucket and the cm said they don't have them anymore by that time it was too late to go back and put it in a locker!

Been there many many times over the years, and we have seen the lockers. But we never knew they were free. I assumed they were the standard $8 (or whatever it is now) as the ones at the front of the park. We have stressed about getting shut out of the center cover, but not any more!

Which reminds me, on HP Forbidden Journey, they take the free locker thing to an extreme. You can't get in the line without "turning out your pockets". Maybe Kali should blatantly publicize the locker situation.

We were there November 18 and the CM at the entrance to the line was announcing to people as they got in line about the lockers. There was also a CM working in the locker area. Not sure if that makes it more secure or not.

That's great that they were doing that. They did not when we were there about a week earlier than that.
