Wyethville on I-77

I'm just sayin'.

Grrrrrr.

VA is kinda notorious for speed traps on interstates. They don't charge tolls.

VA is not the worst place in the world to utilize your cruise control.

I live in VA and have never encountered anything I would consider a speed trap. Now, I will admit that there are certain areas that you will always see a cop car sitting, but they are pretty predictable, at least IMO.

After my first drive, I watch that area and generally find at least one - if not several cops there. We now refer to the state as "Stupid Virginia" and the area as "Stupid Wytheville." We always watch for it and point it out. It's a long drive and that is fun for us.

After my ticket, we stopped for pop and I mentioned to the woman that I'd been ticketed and she said they were always there. A guy in line said, "Yup. Speed trap."

That is my limited info upon which I base the statement.

Those people could have been teasing me, I suppose. And you could, of course, know the area much better than I do. I just drive through.

I live in Virginia Beach and EVERYONE knows going west on 58 to get to 95 you have to do the speed limit. Pretty much 20 miles before and after, the entire area is a speed trap.

Don't ask me where I got my very first speeding ticket at age 27... :rotfl2:

There are lots of speed traps here in Va. Beach....especially on Shore Drive....we also know, that when you get on 58 heading towards I-95, you need to make sure you are doing the speed limit...luckily for me, I've never been pulled over there, but have seem many that have.

There is a section of 95 in Richmond where the speed limit drops from 75 mph to 50 mph with little signage.

The 55 mph section is rather short and there are always cops waiting for folks that missed the signs...or ignored them. :rolleyes1

Now that I will call a speed trap. But in reality most of what people call a speed trap aren't true speed traps. At least in my opinion. And these things do happen in other states, not just Virginia and not just the south.

When I fist moved down here everyone told me about that area. I have to remember when we are driving that way next week to actually do the speed limit!

I got my first speeding ticket within 6 months of moving to South VA/Hampton Roads. All for 8 MPH over. I was still driving Fort Lauderdale style, I guess!

I'm more upset my little "Safe Driver" endorsement is no longer on my FL license. VA reports to other states, and fast!

That is because the speed limits around here suck. I am used to a much higher speed limit in Michigan. Since I started working again I kinda figured out where the cops hang out.

They are much higher in FL, too. Well, that and the speed limit was more of a suggestion in South FL.

:rotfl2: So true. We were just up in MI last weekend and I had to remind my DH it was ok to do 80 in Detroit because the cops never pull over anyone on the freeway.

So true...and some of the speed limits just don't make sense

Another tip for those driving on 95 in VA... Watch your speed near Emporia. Going south and coming north. Pretty much be careful anywhere south of Richmond... I got 4 tickets in 2 years in the Va Beach area, moved to Northern Va and didn't get another ticket for 8 years, just before we moved to Europe. Here's the kicker... it was for doing 36 mph! I love my home state, but our cops are ticket crazy!

Next month, I'm going to need Cheri to tell me the latest speed traps in her area since we have not been in her neck of the woods in ages.

We remember most of speed trap areas on I95, I 81, I 77, and several other routes.

The worse traps on I-95 are in SC (multiple digital cameras in one trap...which was mention on MSNBC.com site not that long ago) and GA.

Knock on wood.....crossing fingers and hoping not have jinx us...

:wizard:Anyone have a rabbit's foot, horse shoe.....
