Speaking of Pirates...

Did anyone else watch the bidding unfold for the Pirates movie props and clothing on Ebay? I thought it was really amazing, but I had never really checked in on any such thing before.

Jacks Hat seemed to be the crowning jewel today, going for a whopping $8,100.00
Barbossas ring was next with $2,026. Heck even a linen vest went for over $1,500.!
There was hardly a thing that went for below $100, even cheap coins used in the film. It amazed me what people would pay to have a piece of this. A measley cotton scarf that Jack wore went for $2125. and even Swans ring was over $700. Will's red cape went for over $2000. as well. I couldn't believe someone was willing to pay nearly $550 for Elizabeths earrings. They weren't even real, and certainly weren't particularly nice looking. I guess I could see paying almost $2,000 for the Gold dress, which someone did, but the earrings were junk.

So, does this go in with the movie booty or something else? I just wondered, since I know todays auctions were the very end of the bunch and it has been going on for awhile. (I just decided to watch things go today and jotted down the totals to see how well it did...)

Anyone know?

wow that stuff is going for a lot. I saw them selling a couple of boats from disneyland too. I didn't have room in my attic so I let them go. Would be fun to put a trolling motor on and tool around in though.

Wow! I loved the movie, but that is a lot of money to be spending on that stuff. That is just it...stuff.
While I would have loved to have had the hat for my DH
I could not fathom paying that much!

The hat was how I found the auctions in the first place. If I remember right, this is the second hat, but I don't know what the first went for...once they are done, they disappear.

There were 3 hats total...If only 2 brought that much, can you imagine how much all the costumes, props and what-nots would bring in?

Does anyone know if that goes back into the pot for the next movie, or is it just gravey so to speak?

Wow! Jack's hat for $8,100! I wonder at anyone paying such prices and I'm surprised that they didn't keep the stuff for the sequel.

This reminds me of something sort of on topic.

While we were down in New Braunfels this past weekend we found out that many of the items used in the filming of Disney's Alamo movie were being auctioned off that Sunday. This was at a ranch, where the movie was also filmed, close to a town named Dripping Springs and included tons of items http://www.swensonauctioneers.com/alamo.htm . I wonder how they did at that auction?

The Black Pearl's Masthead was on display at the Disney Gallery in Disneyland & it had a sign that it was up for auction.

I must admit i bought something from the pirates of the caribbean from ebay. I bought an autographed poster and then a poster with will turner on one side and elizabeth swann on the other. But I only paid like 50 total. I can't believe his hat went for 8,100.00. I wish i had that much money to buy the clothing from the movie. I thought the plum dress keira knightly wore was gorgeous. *sighs* o well
