Speaking of internet.... do you still use a desktop computer?

desk top and laptop.
Laptop downstairs (the one I have now is useless. Worn out). I need DS to help me with a new one.
I am not Tech savvy at all.
I like having the laptop downstairs so I can be on in when watching TV
I like my desktop too. Upstairs where my craft room and office is. I don't like using a phone for things. One, harder to see. Two, small so I can't always do what I want to.
Yep I am old!!

My old laptop is stored somewhere but I really only use a desktop. Need it for art programs and gaming purposes. It's actually cheaper nowadays to build a PC and update it every few years vs buying a home game console... Weird adjustment from the SNES/Playstation/Gameboy days

My computer is a laptop, but I have it set up as a desktop with a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse. For all intents and purposes, it’s a “desktop”.

totally agree. When DH shows me a pic from his phone i ask him to send it to my "grown up" computer so I can get a better look at it. We do travel with his lap top.

No desktop here and don't think I've had one since I was a teenager. We don't even have desktop computers at work any more, these were all swapped out for laptops and I work for an organisation that has circa 12k staff members.

I have a Samsung laptop (Galaxy book) but it barely gets used. Tend to use it for storage of files and transferring Kindle books. I use a tablet at home more often than anything else.

I don't own a cell phone. One of the reasons I have no real interest is from listening to everyone in my family complain about how small the screen is, how the can't "see everything" they need all at once, etc. I have a flip phone that is provided by my employer for emergencies (I manage chemistry labs, if there's a dangerous situation they want me to have immediate access) but it stays at work. I do bring it with me when I travel solo, though.

I use my laptop pretty much exclusively. I have a monitor for it but we don't currently have a place where I can set this up. My laptop is provided through work, so I'm saving up to buy my own when I retire (Mac... used to be a PC girl but after 8 years using a Mac, I don't wanna go back). DH has 3 laptops (personal, work, and one with a completely different operating system for data analysis) and a desktop here at home. Once I make an office space at home for myself, I'm going to hook up the big monitor. I'm getting older, my vision is not as good (even with glasses), my back would be happier if I sat in a decent chair rather than in bed or on the couch while working... you get it!

This thread got me to add up the computers at my home.

We have 6 desktops in active use.

We have 3 laptops that get used daily.

We have 2 iPads that get used daily.

We have 3 iPhones that get used daily.

There are also 5 RaspberryPI that get used often but those are work related.

We are a high screen time family.

Yes, I use my dinosaur desktop. And when I watch TV I go in the living room and watch our TV set.

Last time I upgraded my laptop, I got a Dell Precision business laptop which has the power of a desktop. It has a 12 core I7, 64 GB of ram, 1TB SSD and Nvidia graphics. Still have a desktop, but don't use it any more.

1 Desktop (Apple), 1 laptop (Apple), iPad and IPhone

I doubt I will replace the desktop the day it dies.

DH and I each have a work laptop, personal laptop, and an ipad. It has been at least 10 years since I’ve had a desktop at home or work.

We have 5, two Macs and three PC's. Plus we have laptops, iPads, tablets and phones...we too are a high screen family.

I'm old but that isn't why I still have a desktop. I currently have one desktop and one iPhone. I have always hated laptops for two reasons. One is I have a spare room (combined office and extra bedroom). I have found that laptops are both uncomfortable to use but also bulky to carry around. I hate carrying things, anything, much less a machine that has no real purpose in my life. I can barely tolerate carrying my phone. My desktop has a wide screen so eye strain is reduced and even though I can multitask I find that watching TV and using a laptop at the same time just seems silly. Pick a side, is my motto.

The iPhone is useless for me as far as extensive use beyond email and texting. My pudgy fingers are always hitting more than one key at a time, the use of voice instead of typing takes more time due to the phones inability to listen to what I'm saying. It's like it is anticipating my next word and it is usually wrong which means I have to go back and proofread and correct it so I don't send something that sounds like someone should be looking for a "home" for me. Besides I didn't take touch typing in High School for nothing when it comes to using my phone for stuff like this. A laptop would work but I think I mentioned that I hate using a laptop.

I also keep track of all my finances via Quicken and trying to read that on a smaller screen would make my eyes bleed. In short there is nothing that I need to do outside my home office that warrants my dragging a laptop wherever I go. To me it's just not worth the effort. I can appreciate that the small electronic appliance can do more then the first computer I worked with which filled a large room. The Univac 1050-2 which could do almost nothing except keep track of inventory and I realise that, at this point they are an absolute necessity for conducting business. I am retired and have nothing important enough to do or see that requires me to carry the world with me. If I have a question that I need answered my phone will suffice or wait until I get home. Most of the time I forget that I was going to research it and that really means that it was not really important.

Like a few others, we use our laptops as “hard drives” for our desktop setups, with full-size keyboards, monitors and wireless mouse. I despise trying to work on my phone; I use my iPad for anything that must be app based.

I have an old desktop that I keep because there are some programs that only work on it. I also have three laptops (two old, one new). I primarily use my iPad though, unless I am doing a large writing or spreadsheet project. Then I use the new laptop. The iPad is easier since it’s lighter and doesn’t have a keyboard or touchpad/mouse to deal with.

I use my desktop every day. It's not a big tower. The cpu is a tiny little box (Lenovo Think Centre). But I need the good keyboard and big screen for my work, which'd be hell to have to do on a laptop.

I haven't had a desktop in over ten years. I have my three iThings (MacBook, Pad, Phone), which are all linked, so that I can do everything on any of the three devices and the other two will mirror that work.

We haven't even had a printer at home for almost that long. If I need a printout of something (like cruise luggage tags  ) I'll print them at the office. From my device of the moment.

I just replaced my 12 year old desktop, with a laptop. But I still use it at my desk. I dock it, and use my same two monitors and wireless keyboard and mouse. So it's just the same as before, except I can take it upstairs or somewhere else if I want to.
