Speaking of google... Everyone beware!!

I guess I am confused about this, why is it so frightening? Maybe I am missing something???

We're unlisted and I was happy to see that our number did not come up.

Isn't 411 another way to find out this kind of information if you're listed?

I have not been listed for years but I can still be found by someone savvy enough to find me.

Delivery places use this info all the time, I know my news guys do it to find places. The fact that someone knows where you live shouldn't be all that frightening especially if you choose to be listed.

Mine is not coming up, then again I have been unlisted for years!

While I agree it's disconcerting to see your home pop up so easily, it is pretty much the way of the world today. All anyone needs is your address and they can do the same thing with Mapquest. Heck, they can even go to satellite sites and look at maps that show your "real" house.

Something you might want to keep in mind is not sharing too much information over the Internet. While most people are "friends" there are always those looking to use information. If you share your real name, town, dates you are going on vacation and that no one will be home....you have shared too much information.

Mine is unlisted and not shown, I did type in my neighbor and they showed up. That is scarey, robbers could get an answering machine and quickly figure out how to get to your house.

It's no different than having your address in the phone book, anyone can take that address, put it on Mapquest and find you.

For those who are "frightened" about this, are you just as frightened about it being in the phone book? And what exactly are you frighted about?

It's just a tad disconcerting to put that number in a giant search engine like Google and Ta-Da..there you are! I think most of us realize that any of us could be easily "found." I mean, you know when you TRY to find something on Google how buried the info you REALLY want is!!!!:D :D :D :D :D

A phone number is really QUITE a specific search term, eh?? One result and it's ME!!!

D. Kurtz, I agree.

We've got a serial killer running around down here and I for one, dont want to give him easy access!!! I put my number in and it didnt come up but I put an older one in at my old address and it did! My mail is still being forwarded from at address too.

You better believe I dont want stuff like that floating around!!!

Like others have said, if you have a listed number anyone can get your address out of the phone book or by calling 411. I really don't see what is so shocking.
