I have posted this before on the recipe board....but since subjects of cakes and batter are going around....thought I would post it here too. This has been in our family forever! And it is GREAT....especially cold (uh oh....new thread could be coming!!).......I LOVE cold cake....can't eat it room temp.
Here it is:
2/3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2 egg whites
1/2 cup scalded milk
1 tsp vanilla
Cream together butter and shortening
"Gradually" add sugar beating "VERY" well (it will still seem somewhat gritty...but thats ok for now)
Add egg whites and vanilla.....blend well.
"Gradually" add scalded milk while still hot.
Beat until fluffy (the more you beat it..the smoother it gets).....take a little taste to make sure it's smooth and not at all gritty.
Spread on cool cake.
I usually 1 1/2 times this recipe (for a typical box mix).....the more frosting on a cake....the better!!!!!
