Speaking of baby names

I have a 70 year old aunt named Hazel, and everyone else I know personally with the name is 60+. That being said, older names are making a comeback.

I didn't start my child naming trend with a family name, mainly because I like unique names, but another reason was because I didn't want to have to include my grandmother's names if I had a girl. They are Flonnie and Cleo. Now, my mom's name is Clarice and I have thought of Mara Claire, so maybe a new take on Hazel would sound more modern?

I think it could be cute on the right kid - she'd have to have a certain kind of personality. But, not brave enough and/or don't love it enough to do it on my own!

I like Hazel. Then again, it is the name of a book character that I really like:goodvibes

I am not sure it is all that uncommin anymore though. I have heard of several young girls or babies with the name in the last few years (and I am not even meeting many Americans these days:rotfl:)

Frumpy. It's an old lady name, and I tend to like classic names. It makes me think of the old TV show about the maid named Hazel.

My friend's daughter is named Hazel. It just doesn't fit her. I don't care for old names anyway so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

I tend to like classic names, but Hazel just isn't one of my favorites. Witch Hazel and Hazel the Maid immediately come to mind, so I guess it's just a matter of whom/what you associate the name with. Still, kids today probably aren't familiar with either Witch Hazel or Hazel the Maid, so it wouldn't have any negative connections for them.

GAHHHHHHH!!!!!

I absolutely love and adore the name Hazel and so badly want to name one of our girls Hazel but DH has vetoed it. :sad2:

So we're going with Eleanor Rose and Lillian or Cecilia Ruby -- DH still can't decide. We're slowly getting down to the wire... I think he's just refusing to commit until he can look at them for some silly reason. Like a newborn is going to LOOK like a specific name.

(DD's name is Violet, btw, so old-fashioned seems to be a theme for us)

That's funny - my dd16 is very good friends with Cicely and her younger sister is Lillian.

Thats very true. When my friend decided on Hazel for her baby, her mom, aunts and grandmother did not like it because they associated it with their generation. All of her friends in the younger generation loved it because we have no idea who Witch Hazel or Hazel the maid are

Hazel is making a come back. Julia Robert's has twins named Hazel and Phinnaeus (as in "and Ferb"). The little girl in Dolphin Tail is named Hazel (the character, not the actress).

Lots of older names are in again. Last year my daughter had 2 little girls in her preschool class named Alice. Yeah, I bet their parents never expected them to have to be Alice K and Alice M!

FWIW, I love Hazel. It was my grandma's middle name. Unfortunately, I did not love my grandma.
