Speakers at pools?

DH and I just got back from a vacation in Jamaica. Everything was great except one little thing: people were bringing portable speakers to the pool side and playing music at a volume so loud that everyone at the pool could hear it—-like an 80s boom box. In one case, the music was exceptionally graphic. Has anyone noticed the rise of the portable speaker happening at WDW resort pools or are people still plugged into their airbuds? Does Disney have a policy about this? Just wondering....

I, too, have never witnessed this at a WDW pool and we go fairly frequently. If someone attempted to do it, I don't think the CMs would let it go on for very long. WDW tries to retain control of the atmosphere and ambiance of their resorts and parks. They have their own music mixes at the resort pools.

The 15s were doing this some in July, but they kept it low volume and just in their "area" and it was before or after the daily Activities Program.

If it bugs you, get up and bust a move with REALLY bad dancing. More attention will make them feel awkward and might get them to stop. This works for me on public transit pretty well: if I can hear your music, I am going to comment on it and get my groove on. If they dont want me gyrating in their face in public, they can turn it down in public.LOL

I have never seen it at WDW. Once I was bothered by a couple playing obnoxiously loud on DCL, but in that situation I just relocated.

^^ True, but the people this applies to are probably so clueless/self-absorbed they have NO idea their LOUD music is annoying to others. Disney life guards are very proactive at the pools. We stayed at the Contemporary a few months ago and they weren't shy about letting people know what is/isn't permitted.

We've done it in the past, but only to the quiet pools and at very low volume levels. We don't want to be "those people"... ;-) I've seen it here/there as well, but typically at the quiet pools. It seems to me at the larger pools, there's resort pool area music playing, or activities and that bringing your own speaker just doesn't make sense...

Came on here to read the rules for speakers at DW resort pools— for reference, I’m at Riviera and just had to ask a family to rotate their speaker so it wasn’t blaring our direction with trashy music. Plenty of lifeguards around and no one said anything to them. We’ve had a lovely week at the pool so this felt out of the ordinary.

Never had this happen at a WDW resort but it was a constant issue at their Hilton Head Island resort. I'm not talking about the beach area; our family was actually the odd one out in that we DIDN'T bring a speaker. One one occasion we sat in between two families that each had their own speaker and they were blasting a mixture of country music and R&B. What I didn't expect is to see people bring speakers in the pool areas. It was incredibly annoying.

We put it between us and keep it low. Trust me, no one else can hear it. We are not rude people!
I would not have any problem with a table next to us having music on low, but loud or vulgar would be a different story. I do not expect to go to the pool area and expect it to be quiet. I do not know how many times I read posts of people whinning about Disneys pool entertainment.

I’ve only witnessed it once at a Disney resort and the activities cast made them turn it off after.

I've done this at pools and beaches, but I keep it relatively low so that it's not bothering others. If I'm politely asked turn it off, of course I will but if you're keeping it at a considerate level, I don't think it's a big deal.
