SPD vs RO for Beachclub

ok here is my issue. I have a 7 night 8 day stay booked at the Beach Club Garden View room for early February, 2 adults/3 kids all under 10 but over 3. I got the 35% off room only discount via the Disney Visa saving me 883.00. I think that is the best deal but just wanted to see if anyone can figure out if the S/P/D would actually save me more money. I don't want to call if I know it isn't the better deal but I can't figure out how it would actually break down in cost. Please help!

Were you planning to buy the DDP anyway, or only get it if you thought the S/P/D discount would be better than a room only discount? Since there are really only two adults in your room and the rest are kids, I think that the room only discount might be a better deal. You are really going to have to crunch the numbers to find out, though. You could wait until the SPD deal is released to the public tomorrow and it is live on the Disney website. Then build a trip based on the SPD discount and see what the savings is.

Since you are going to have to buy food anyway, if you think that you can spend less money per day by paying out of pocket for your food rather then paying the cost of the DDP, then take the room discount. If you are planning lots of character meals and buffets, and if the savings is about the same as the RO discount, then take the SPD plan. Those character meals and buffets at children's prices are the best bargain at Disney.

For us, the RO discount was a better deal by ~$150.

We are doing 5 for 7 nights at the Beach Club, kids ages 16, 10, and 7. So, even with 4 "adults", RO was a better deal.

Added bonus in my case, DH balked at the price initially, so we dropped dining and park hoppers. We may add them back in, if we're feeling flush down the line. OTOH, though, he decided to add in an 8th night, even though our flight lands at 8pm on Friday. We were going to do a cheap airport hotel, then go to BC in the morning, but he decided the hassles weren't worth the few $$ we'd save. Go figure.

Absolutely. Now with Free Dining, that would have been a better savings than RO. Too bad S-P-D can't compare. And adding an extra night in lieu of staying at a cheap hotel to avoid the hassle is a good move, though the former idea would've saved quite a bit more than a "few" dollars, as the BC is not cheap. But I agree it is less of a hassle and you will get so much more out of your first day going that route. Good luck!

When you look at a deluxe, RO discounts are the way to go. Even if you have only adults and juniors in your party (they pay adult dining prices) during FD, you are still better off with a RO discount when it's at 30% or 35%.

If look at mods, it's another story...

Absolutely. Now with Free Dining, that would have been a better savings than RO. Too bad S-P-D can't compare. And adding an extra night in lieu of staying at a cheap hotel to avoid the hassle is a good move, though the former idea would've saved quite a bit more than a "few" dollars, as the BC is not cheap. But I agree it is less of a hassle and you will get so much more out of your first day going that route. Good luck!

We're paying about $300/night for Beach Club--definitely NOT cheap! But, our TA was looking at 2 rooms (due to 5 people), trying to get us continental breakfast, airport shuttle, etc., so it probably would have saved ~$150 to do the cheap hotel route. But then you throw in going to baggage claim, waiting for the hotel shuttle Fri., checking in, getting everyone settled, and then waking up early the next day to get back to the airport with our bags to catch ME--when we walked through the logistics of it, $150 didn't sound like that great a savings. And added bonus for me that DH didn't think it was worth it--if I had suggested the extra night at BC from the get-go, he would have thought it was a huge waste of money.

You're doing the best thing by starting your trip at the Beach Club. We stayed there last year and LOVED the convenience of being able to walk right into the World Showcase. Enjoy!

I compared the room only discount at the BC garden view Feb 5 - 10, 2014, with DDP and 6 day park hoppers for two to the Stay, Play and Dine discount. It was $334.72 cheaper to book a room only discount and then add the DDP and tickets then to get the SPD plan.
