Spas, tips, and Disney Rewards

This will be our first cruise in October and I want to take advantage of our Disney Rewards but I'm not sure how the redemption works. In the description for the certificate redemption, it states: "This rewards certificate may be redeemed only toward select merchandise, recreation, lodging, food, beverages and Walt Disney World� admission tickets at participating locations at the Walt Disney World� Resort and on Disney Cruise Line� ships."

I don't like how they used the word "select" and "participating locations."

Has anyone used the rewards yet? Can they be used for spa services, specialty drinks, and tips? Also, how do we redeem them if everything is charged to our Key to the World Card?

I have done so yet, but I was thinking that we turn in the certificates at Guest Services on the ship and that amount would be applied to the balance. Just as you can apply cash to your outstanding balance. Hopefully someone with experience will be able to shed more light on the matter!
